Have any of you experienced problems with your tach ? Although im going to wait till about thanksgiving to take it apart ( end of the riding season for me around here ) My needle reads @6800 rpm with the machine off and that varies. The needle swings up with the engine running seems if i subtract the starting point to the running amount its still pretty close. Id like to attemp to repair or calibrate it instead of replacing it. Thanks. Tom

Tom, had a small issue with the tach reading high a long time ago. When the motor was shut off the tach would not fall to 0. If it dropped to 1,000 RPM it would read high by that amount next time it was cranked ~like idle sounding normal but displaying 2,000 RPM. Not sure what I did or if it just corrected itself. Was recently discussed over on Trat. Severeal suggested cycling the key on, using the cut off switch with your thumb several times slowly. Worth a try. I rely on the cut off switch on the kickstand to shut the motor off Do remember cycling the thumb switch and the problem went away sometime after.

Mine did it once last year and again this week. My needle was gradually climbing every time I started the bike. I cycled the key off and on and it dropped back down to zero after about 10 cycles of the switch. Hope this is not a precursor to a full blown failure. Tachs are not cheap.
