It's about this forum, this ba.com. In a recent conversation with a fellow member he had this to say...
"... some of those guys don't use the forum for it's greatest feature, which is to personally meet as many of the members as possible. I tell you what, I must have met at least 100 guys from the forum, and 99% of them have been an absolute treat to be around."
That statement sums up just about everything I feel about this place.
To continue fostering a sense of community I'd suggest a zero tolerance policy towards political posts. Zero! Add to that a ban on gun related threads (which are always U.S. dominated in this, an international forum) and we have a near perfect platform for repose, helpfulness and lighthearted banter.
I with to thank all those who strive to keep it clean and respectful of each other and the AUP. I look forward to meeting more of you as time moves on.
Live to love, love to live.

While we're at it, can we all submit subjects for banning from the forum?
We all like to think of ourselves as rugged individualists. But when push comes to shove most of us are sheep who do what we are told. Worst of all, a lot of us become unpaid agents of whoever is controlling the agenda by enforcing the current dogma on the few rugged individualists who actually exist.

While I agree on much of what ya said there about politics and such, and would be tempted to say that meet up with folks face to face is its greatest feature, but many folks live far off and it would not be fair to say that our esteemed members from lands such as France, the UK, and Sweden are for geographic reasons are unable to use this forums greatest feature. I myself have only met a few because of the distance I live and the business of life and work. So I say the greatest feature is that a fella can fellowship with others from around the globe and even for real bonds having never met a fella in person. Like for instance you yourself Keith, its not likely you and I shall ever meet, but I am glad to have met ya on here. And if per chance we ever do get the opportunity I will be very excited and happy to do so. So it goes to you all. Even if we dont see eye to eye on some things, I still count you as friends. Even those of you with who I more often disagree. One of the most valueable lessons I have learned on here is that, you can still like a person that you mostly disagree with. I think the greatest feature may well be that you can be friends with folks you may never meet face to face in your life. Oh and I dont need ya tank. I saw an anti tank missile battery for sale.
I have no faith in human perfectability. I think that human exertion will have no appreciable effect upon humanity. Man is now only more active - not more happy - nor more wise, than he was 6000 years ago.

Yes, we are individuals and will not agree some of the time but if you don't agree with someone, ignore it and move on...if it is that bad the moderator can nuke it.... but banning discussion... can't agree with that.

Well, all I can say here is it sure is nice to know that even though I'm not super rich, I STILL can worm my way into that "One Percent" bracket somehow!!!

Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

That being the case, why shouldn't this thread be shut down? Or are some animals more equal than others?

I have met lots of the members. Dwight, you are a class all your own buddy. I have to get to Sedona to see the new house by the way. So if we meet face to face do we still have rules about what not to say? It just all seems pretty silly to me. Make an Off Topic thread and a Political Thread. Put it all in there and let it go. Nobody is forced to read posts. You don't have the right in life not to have your feelings hurt. The fact that all never agree on everything or anything makes life interesting. I am campaigning for an open thread, I even brought a sign.

It's a good idea but it never seems to be the initial post that gets chastised. It generally gets a pass. It's the response to it that draws ire (depending upon where the majority stands).

Political threads and other "controversial" threads don't bother me. Sure I can get "excited" or even angry about some people's opinions but I get over it rather fast. Everybody is entitled to their own opinions, even if I think the logic or information they use to come to it is foolish. There are a couple of fella's on here I could never agree on politically, but we share the love of riding bikes, so they're cool with me. Live and let live. Share what we enjoy and don't take everything else too seriously. Ride on, brothers!

I would hold up two fingers on my right hand (fingers facing forward of course) and say the boyscout "Will dib dib dib" etc. oath but I know there is that 1% +++ that will drift into the occasional political commentary. Its just human nature to take a stand every so often just as long as its kept civil and infrequent.

Political banter should be allowed ---- trashing someone because of their opinion, should not....or better yet, as well outlined in this thread, we all share the love of riding and should police ourselves regarding respect for other posters --- wherever they reside. Everyone is entitled to their beliefs, and everyone can also skip a post or never open a particular topic or set of posts if they want to avoid a particular subject.
I don't know if I'll ever meet any of you, but I already know that it would be great to ride with you all and raise a pint (or a dram) afterwards!

I actually enjoy the heated threads (politics, guns, ATGATT, etc), at least on this forum. These topics seem to get heated with out getting personal. That's the best way to learn something.

I think ATGATT is allowed! I won't go riding without a shirt, jeans, sunglasses and sneakers. I can't believe people ride with flip flops if they don't have a heel toe shifter! Then it would be okay.

Im not for banning any conversation, just that all parties remain civil to each other. I think this place is pretty good at it too. Politics well, is very simple. If a politician promotes it he is gonna make some money from it. The gun issue is simple too. It depends on how important the constitution is to you. Atgatt well, as long as you wear a condom you are less likely to get hepititus. Well that covers it right. Ok then have another wonderful day and remember to eat it every day.

That is one of the reasons I'm here. I'll likely never personally meet any of you folks, but it is good to understand what makes you tick. That's especially important because you're not from around here. I already know what my neighbors and local media think!

On the contrary, several of us from the UK, Germany, Sweden, Poland, Switzerland (and myself from Greece) have been hooking up once a year, every year for nearly a decade now. We also visit each other individually too. Also, from across the Atlantic, I have had the pleasure to have met visitors from both the US and Canada, right here in Greece, not to mention a looong epic ride with each of the 2 gents from the US, on seperate occasions.

Apparently a discussion about school over reaching it's authority is banned even when civil.

Yeah, seems like the term "zero tolerance" appeared somewhere in that thread, now looks like that premise has crept into this forum.

Wade, in the somewhat distant past I sometimes liked participating in some of these off-topic debates but on several occasions I was in the middle of typing a post and the thread got shot down which was somewhat frustrating. I have since refrained and limited myself to just reading them as and when they appear.

Yes, I agree. Just being an objective listener is an admirable quality. Some people are just passionate in their convictions and it gets misinterpreted as controversy. This is truly a diverse group and I suppose that should be celebrated.

Well its clear that as supposedly men and women we are incapable of any meaningful conversation that actually gets people posting in this other wise very slow moving forum. Even when it is kept civil and decent.

what has been lacking here on the forums.. is a clear cut leader.. ever since FJ passed!!! I believe the mod's need to pick one.. or put it to a vote.. I think that would help I think this is happing some one will post ..and one mod will say that's ok.. and then a day or 2 later anther mod will log on see it and nuke it.. now I am sure they will correct me it I am wrong .but I think that is whats going on.. but your best bet if you even think it political in any way shape or form ..just don't post it Ed
