Are forums falling to the way side in the wake of Facebook and Twitter and other nore instant gratification types of media? It seems to me that many forums have slowed down as far as daily traffic and posting goes, while facebook rocks on at an ever increasing pace. While forums remain an encyclopedic source of techinical information on everything from how to build a rocket to how to smoke a pipe, the social interaction seems to have slowed way down.
I have no faith in human perfectability. I think that human exertion will have no appreciable effect upon humanity. Man is now only more active - not more happy - nor more wise, than he was 6000 years ago.

I have found Facebook to be a tremendous tool for connecting with riders, and friends in general. I don't think FB will replace the forums, but it is certainly a compelling alternative.

facebook pages are not user friendly enough. For example, when viewing from my phone I can see post by the page, but I cannot view post by other users, which is the important stuff. Besides I like to keep my vices separated. One or more forums for each hobby.

I have resisted Facebook, MySpace and the like. Never created a presence on them. I do enjoy reading & participating on the internet forums. Mostly motorcycle & automobile stuff. Good banter and information in a format I can navigate. My sister in-law seems to be almost addicted to Facebook. Yes, it can be a good way to connect and communicate with family/friends but some people I know just seem to want to over share their life with strangers!

Facebook works if you don't have a life. The forums are so much more searchable for older archives and what was said today is still easily seen two weeks later. I also can't stand the incessant friend notifications. No, I don't think FB will replace the forum anymore than the Iphone has replaced the computer or the television. Do we have a facebook page? I don't even know that. We could talk about oil there too I guess.

Facebook, Twitter? Why would I do those, I've spent a decade making the gov and creditors think I'm dead.

I know of a forum or two that uses FB to host photos and large files since they don't have server space to host it themselves. But the fact is that facebook is about making money. Ads, ads, ads, etc. While good forums like this one are about sharing information on common interests, along with some other types of interaction.
