The review of the new Pirelli Angel GT tires ( Product Reviews, Ken Freund, RoadRunner Motorcycle Touring & Travel Magazine, Oct. '13) REALLY dropped the ball.
My choice of tire is largely (almost SOLELY) based on its grip on wet pavement. All else falls in line behind this. (dry grip, wear, price, etc)
The Angel GT was to be the answer to Pirelli market research that showed "over 30% of European replacement tires where sport-touring types, while only 12% of the motorcycles were sport-touring models". They said "The reason, it seems, is that riders wanted better handling and traction (and longer wear) than sportbike rubber delivers"
Anywho, The testing was done on the 3.7 mile Porsche Nardo track in Southern Italy for the dry conditions, wear, stability, and handling at speeds of up to 170 mph. Ok, that's cool, BUT, the wet traction testing was done on the flight deck aboard the "Italian aircraft carrier Cavour, Italy's flagship aircraft carrier", with sprinklers! NOT TO MENTION, ok, I WILL MENTION, No standard "Road film"!
Ok, so the problem HERE is that "the Cavour's flight deck had a 0.9 coefficient of adhesion, which is 50 percent STICKIER than the 0.6 on average roads." WTF!?? HOW in the HE11 is THIS a comparison of wet road traction!?? I know of NO OTHER TIRE tested on an aircraft carriers flight deck!
Guess they WON'T be considered THIS TIME AROUND for the GS!
