Holy samoley..I finally got a round tuit and installed my roller bearings in my steering head on the Speedmaster. Huge Giant Unbelievable difference. Why Triumph did not put these $25 bearings in is a mystery to me. Very inexpensive and vastly superior to the pos ball bearings that came stock. I always had a loose front end with the dreaded wobble decelerating around 40mph. That be gone now. The front end feels solid like it should. Anyway, I got them online, don't remember where, I bought them 3years ago. All Balls 41-6245 and another number that is 22-1020 (motorcycle superstore maybe?) They are for a Honda but they fit perfect. Beware, this is NOT a simple replacement for a novice tech. You need to get the old ones off with a bearing puller (or cut if you are good) and the new ones need pressing on or pound with a thick piece of 1.25" pipe. The races need to be seated below the rim which was tricky but using a rubber mallet and a piece of copper got them where they needed to be. Then you need to seat them by over tightening for a minute then back off and adjust the free play as described in the manual. You must have the Triumph tool, at least one of them, a crescent will work for the top but the bottom nut needs to be held securely and held while the top nut is torqued to 40fp. Anyway, a good inexpensive improvement if you got the time and patience. It took me all day but I was slow and careful. www.GOallballs.com

Pat, I've got a question as well. Does the part number you referenced come as a kit, with the races, bearings, washers etc, everything you would need?

G'day Dinqua. I did the same conversion about a month ago. I couldn't believe how crude the original bearings are. I got my bearings from triumphperformanceparts.com.au A good place to get parts in Australia.

It took me all day ...
Translation: "It was a 9 beer job"
What shocked me was how god awful the factory bearings were - for something so important, I don't think Triumph could have found a cheaper bearing set if they had spent two lifetimes looking. Yes, OK it's a low bearing speed, short trajectory application, but we are talking steering Triumph folks...
One thing that bugged me and the multi-year extensive broad background machinist who helped me with the pressing: The bottom bearing takes it's location from a rubber (the seal) surface. Very weird, and we could see no other way to do it.
Note that a bearing change creates a very good chance to drain the forks via upside down drainage. Forgive me the obvious to folks wanting to do a bearing campaign, but I shed some blood learning this many moons ago: Be SURE you fill both forks equally, and I do mean eq-ually.
Got the scars to prove it from back in my 20 something days. Did a tank slap get off many years ago, and do believe a then recent fork oil changeout was part of that equation.
Note - I have the magic thin spanners to tighten the top nuts, and would be glad to share them with the entire forum on one condition - that when the next guy needs them, they get to that next person, and not lost on a bench somewhere.
Best way to reach me is via email kangamanga -- at -- gmailDOTcom IMs from this site to reach me won't work too well.

This looks to be the correct kit but it only lists two seals and two bearings. No races are listed

I just now opened a set that I am going to install soon and the tapered bearings and races are wrapped together in the same wax paper bags. Evidently the races are considered as one with its bearing. Part # 22-1020 verified.

WOW!!!! Thank you Pat!!! My steering has been loose for some time now and there is this catch, like a bearing catching in a dimple, right at straight ahead. I also had the 40 mph shake. This stuff was more annoying than troublesome so I didn't do anything about it. Well your post made me decide to change the bearing and, WOW again, did that ever tighten up the front of my bike and for the first time ever I have no 40 mph shake of the handle bars. I didn't realize how bad it was, I just got used to it. I would suggest everyone get rid of their BB bearings and get the All Balls roller bearings.
