Hey guys been hanging around for a while getting to know the forum and some of the members. I going to start with some mods next week so figured I could use the forum to log the process.

I bought the bike as a repairable write off from the auctions.

I got her fixed up and back to standard.

Now the Thruxton tank has arrived and the real fun begins.

Cheers.

Thanks guys, just about to put a bunch of other stuff on order while Im in NZ.

Just a quick bit of advice. I like the BC cocktail shakers but they are expensive. EMGO have a set for under half price. are they any good?

I bet they would be fine, but may not have the baffeling in them that the BC ones do. I think they would be worth a shot at that price.

of course, my bike is very loud.

I decided to spend the extra and do it right. Every time I skimp on something I always end up disappointed and 2 times out of 3 buy the expensive one anyway! Should be here in a few weeks.

How about posting material/parts cost & labor time with the build thread.

Should provide some real chuckles in the end.

Hahaha will that will only result in me crying. I bought the bike from the auctions as a RWO for $3200 (second hand would normally be about $10-$11k here in Aus. With delivery and repairs to get it road worthy Im in the bin about $6500. A good saving I thought. I was going to sell it to fund my next project but got attached haha. I guarantee though it'll be well over the five digits by the time Im finished :-p

I'll put something together over the next few days bud.

Ok, so most of the parts are now here, just a few things left now.

Ive put the British Cocktail Shakers on and all I can say is... HOLY MOTHER OF GOD they are LOUD!!! They look pretty darn bad ass too

This afternoon we took the front end off for powder coating. When it comes back the progressive springs will go in, along with the Biltwell tracker bars, grips and maybe even the joker clamp (just wont connect it till the tank is on).

SO, lots of work ahead and will post some more pics soon.

Man I couldnt have done it on my own. I dont have a mechanical background so am learning as I go. Im just lucky a really good mate of mine IS very mechanically minded. It only took us just over an hour and 2-3 beers

All good re the parts. Ive decided to stage the mods anyway so I'm doing the front end with bars/grips etc first, then the white walls, then the rear fender and indicators, then the seat and tank last (they need to go on together I think).

The front end is now back from the powder coaters and installed. Whilst the front end was apart I had the lowered progressive springs added (1 inch) and the Biltwell tracker bars with Joker machine clamp.

Two points I'll make. First is that I dont love the springs, the front feels more jittery/twitchy and I can feel every bloody pebble in the road. I must admit I blame myself! Im not sure why I just ordered generic springs instead of spending the time and money researching what would be best for my weight, I should know better! I can also notice the loss of cornering clearance. I actually like to push the bike through some of the mountain runs we have here in Brissy and the pegs are dragging much earlier now

Secondly I have a short torso/arms and long legs. So the new handlebar position was much too extreme (read clamshell). My back would hurt within minutes of leaving home! The handlebar and riser were bought to go with the Thurxton tank and mid mount controls for a more low/mean street bobber than cruiser. And until i can sort out the mid mounts Im going to leave the tank off and ride it as a traditional cruiser. I'm still going to relocate the indicators which I have already bought and fix up the rear fender but the other stuff will go on hold for the moment.

So here's an updated pic, not much different yet but I like the subtle change. Hopefully Kurt will be feeling better soon and I can go to the mid mount setup.

Thanks for reading

did you lower this bike yet? guess your waiting for those rear shocks right? so the front you just put the progressive springs in it, but not lowered?
