Yup... it happens to quite a few. Only fix I know of is to install a Pingel... or just deal with it.

Pingel is just a really nice valve. Mine has been sticking every now and then for years, I just turn it harder and then it is OK for a while.

The ball bearings the choke slides against are probably dry.

Drain the tank, pull the tap. Disassemble, not much to it! Clean thoroughly with carb cleaner. Lube with a light smear of die electric grease. Reassemble, go for ride.

I've two pingels. Prudence keeps the oem petcock. Thing is, with the oem petcock, one must/should always turn it off when not running the motor. They leak. Couple that with the chance the float needles leak, and you could save 3.75 qts of expensive oil by simple turning the petcock off...

I've never turned off the OEM one on my 07, and no leaky leaky, or sticky, sticky. Guess I've just been lucky.

IF it ever does, you'll have a crankcase full of gas/oil, a floor soaked in gas, worse, or ALL THREE! (been there) You WON'T notice it being hard to turn unless you turn it.

Well actuallY I DO infact turn it about every 150 miles or so from ON to RES, passing thru the OFF position and then shortly thereafter make the position transaction in reverse after a brief visit to a local liquid energy station. However after reading the words of wisdom from "Ye ol Floridian Sages" I shall henceforth steady me steeds with their doo-hicky in the "OFF" position.

I have always turned my gas off when I park, habit I have been in for 35+ years. It has become a ritual when getting I turn it on pull the choke turn on ignition and kick...err ...I mean push the button. Pull choke used to be push the tickler. and reverse when shutting it off.

If you never turned it off, then how would you know?
