Ok, so I made the subject sound stupid on purpose. Anyways, when I was checking all my stuff to find out my coil is gone. I pulled the spark plugs and both had oil on the threads. The plugs themselves looked fine, weren't fouled. Anyone experience this?

Thats my number one guess as well. Cause it's both sides so it'd be weird if it were valve guides or seals and I doubt both cylinders rings would go at the same time. Oh well. Since I had to take off my alt. cover anyways for the coil I might as well pull the cam cover and check my valve clearances so it kinda works out. Makes me do the job I was putting off.

After time and numerous heat cycles, the valve cover gaskets tend to harden and no longer deforms enough to make a perfect seal. I had to change them out on both the bikes I still have. Probably made from the same rubber that is used in our tires, only 5 years old and 1200 miles on the clock, and cracked sidewalls. WTF

did you put the spark plugs in yourself? or did somebody else? The reason I ask, it is a common practice to lightly oil the threads before installing the spark plugs so that they do not seize up.

Well, I took my cam cover off. Check valves, all ok. And no sign of anything gone wrong. Well, as much as I could tell without buying that 50 dollar base gasket. So I really do think it was just a leaky cam cover gasket.
