JJ Cale dead of a heart attack at 74. My first encounter with bluesy music was hearing him in the 70s and I finally seen him live in Toronto back in the 90s .ive aquired most of his albums over the years, every one of them is great . Thanks JJ your music and influence will live on RIP.

Funny how I should see this now. I just got home from a nite out seeing a really good blues band Damon Fowler and he mentioned this and played a whole set of JJ's music in tribute . That was the first I heard of this and thought when I get home maybe I should post this news here. Shoulda figured it would already be done lol . He was trully one of the great song writers of our time, I mean when you got people like Clapton and Skynard recording your stuff what else could you want and what does that say about your writing. On anothervnote I just heard one of the greatest versions of I got over you just long enough to let my heartache end I have ever heard. Of course the version I have always known is merle haggards but I have a whole new version in my head now. Saw Fowler open for BB some yrs ago and tonite saw him up close in a small bar where the pres of the local blues society was haveing a b-day party for his wife. Nothing like seeing somebody really good in a small venue. Wish I could have had the chance to see JJ in a setting like that, he seemed like the kind of entertainer that would have shined in a setting like that.
ENJOY!!!!! NEWT!!!!!

A freaking sad day indeed.
Closer to You is one of my favorite albums. I first passed through the continental divide listening to that album. Ah, big skies and Brown Dirt.
RIP John W. Cale

Always good background music for Jane and I. Wink, Wink, Nudge, Nudge Say No More.
Lots of his old vinyl in the milk crate down in the basement.
