the other night..as day was ending supper was ate and things cleaned up.. I need to go cool off.so I went on a short ride down taft rd then off to 7-11 to get a cool drink ..I could not tell you how many time I have been on this road I have walked it.. road my peddle bike on it and of course all my motorcycles .. and at one time could tell you who lived in what house on it.. yup them were the days if I got thirsty.. I could stop at any house get a glass of water and if no one was there.. it was the out side water faucet with the garden hose.. and some house had pie and cookies with fresh milk.. but them days are long gone.. I don't know half the people who live on the road to day.. wouldn't dear stop and ask for any thing mite get shot .. but what was still there was the fresh cut hay as I road down the road it brought back many great memories of my child hood ..with my brothers and sisters ..my friends.. the girls I knew.. my great wife of 28 years the 3 kids we have.. 2 grandsons I have ..and yes they all know taft rd.. [image] [/image] [image] [/image] PS .. on the way back the firefly were out can't wait to help my grandsons catch them.. like I did with my kids in the same hay fields .. don't blink 50 years go by fast.. Nothing like great smells and memories when you're on your bike.

Fresh cut hay,,,,,ah yes! Its amazing how that smell could mean 2 different things to different people at different times. I love the smell and looks of a fresh cut hayfield nowadays. When I was younger and much dumber I had a lot of farmer friends who saw fit to use my strong back to help put away hay, back then I hated the smell of cut grass with a passion!

Farm I grew up on is all houses now. Shame since the place was a land grant back when people came to the colonies from England. Hate to see the inside of the house now but when I lived there it had all the hand made unpainted woodwork including the doors on the big walk in fireplace and all the doors and hardware in the house. I know at least 1 wall was knocked out where the wrap around built in leather couch was. They tore the coupala off the barn too where the original bell still hung and was able to be rung. Breaks my heart when I ride there. The old sign that said Ben Johnson Rd on it to mark the road is now gone too. (my grandfather was Ben Johnson) it is now just Johnson Rd.

Not real thrilled with progress here either. My family's been in this house since 1942. Interesting sidebar; a truck came to a stop in my front yard last week (brake failure) and it turned out to be the great grandson of a former housekeeper. Needless to say, we did a brake job in the front yard. A couple of his other relatives stopped by and we spent a few hours reminiscing. Good times.
BTW, nice looking bike!

My house here was built in 1890. It still has a well in the cellar.... But over here thats modern....used to go to a friends house on a moor in Cornwall...built Ad1600....water from the stream(pure) cooking by a huge open range....oh and you needed to clear the adders out the woodshed too....
I took the Road Less Travelled.
Now where the ****** am I?
