2007 Speedmaster. I noticed this little hole in the top of my crankcase last night...can't imagine that's supposed to be there all open and whatnot. The hole isn't threaded so I don't believe a screw backed out...I'm afraid to cover it up and I'm afraid to ride it with it open. Anyone have any idea what was previously there?

Exactly right. The hole is dimensioned to be tapped for threads, I can't remember if it was 8 or 10mm, but I threaded mine and wound in a bolt, just so crud couldn't accumulate in the blind hole.

Two exactly correct answers, I have a plastic wire guide there on my 04 that minds the crank pickup sensor leads.

Great idea to thread it and put in a bolt! I'm finally going to justify that metric tap set from Harbor Freight that I bought to use 1 time several years ago! Take that Mrs. TheSpivster who thought I "wasted" that money!!!

Ooh, now that's a great place to bolt on an oil cooler.

I have the same set I also used it to tap some 8mm holes to thread rubber feet on my patio umbrella holder!

How did you get a patio umbrella holder on your bike ? An uneducated observation here, but I would suppose you fold it when riding then open at destination. Sure beats pulling out a cover when your motor is hot. Heck, I only use mine for a writing utensil.

Yeah you gotta be careful with the pointy end Actually it's my fiancee's grandmother's set we got when she moved out of her house, so the cast iron base was all rusty. I took it to work and sand blasted and powder coated it

Cast iron; good stuff. Ya don't see that at any of the chain stores, do ya? Hope it looks great and good to keep it in the family.
