The subject line says it all. I'm looking to upgrade to the Wiseco 904 kit, and I was wondering who has the best price, service, ect...
Thanks for your help everyone.

I had my dealer get the kit and the cams. Was basically the same thing that TPUSA http://www.triumphperformanceusa.com/ sells. My research at the time steered me away from the Wiseco product. Maybe the Wiseco kits were just done with less than proper mechanical preparation. I would look to TPUSA for the parts. I see that New Bonneville/Speedmaster http://www.newspeedmaster.com/html/performance.html does carry the Wiseco kit

I wonder why the compression is 11.5:1 for one kit and 10.5:1 for the other? I would think that opening the valve pockets for larger valves would actually DECREASE that one over the other? TYPO? Or am I having a Senior Moment?

Good luck finding suitable fuel for a 11.5:1 Comp. Ratio, just anywhere. Although, 100 octane unleaded Av-Gas would work.

??? I see many current motorcycles with much higher compression ratios. Why wouldn't mid grade fuel be enough? Heck, the Triumph Daytona lists a 13.1:1 CR. Or am I missing something?

My thoughts exactly, 10.5:1 is about max on readily available fuel.

Not sure on that one but octane rating is fuels resistance to pre-ignition and 93 or 94 is really only good up to 10:1 or so. Used to have to add octane boost to my Norton that was 11.5:1 to prevent the pinging.

Mag 10 has 904 12:1 racing pistons on his profile, his two cents on the subject would be interesting to hear. My experience with Octane issues have been associated with car engines and as their exhausts are usually configured different from bikes, you can hear the pinging/pre detonation sounds a lot easier. I currently own a 300H.P. Alfa R. that craves 96 Octane min., so I feed it the best gas I can find and add a $10 a bottle stuff to every tankful to bump up the O. level.

blue tanks of gas is what i miss most about working in general aviation. i don't miss the pressure.

Here is my 2 cents (adjusted for inflation - zero) the setup with the 12:1 s kicks a$$. That said fuel is a problem. It wasn't so much of an issue when I built the motor but it is now. It really runs best on 98 octane. On my way to work there is a track and the gas station nearest has 115 and sometimes I will blend it with 91 or 93. The higher % ethanol fuels seem to do better without knocking. If you do go with the higher compression motor I would strongly consider retarding the timing. I have 8.25 degrees retarded on the pickup head and 3 more in the procom at the bottom end. With that it will be okay on 93 with ethanol.

Elkhart Lake, I wish. No, Beaver Dam/Juneau. I think it is really Dodge county fairgrounds track.

Valve and ignition timing have a lot to do with which fuel grade to use as well.
Perhaps one of the maps in the pro com ignitor helps, and you could always add octane booster to get to the rating needed to avoid problems.
Since air cooled engines naturally run hotter than liquid I would also be concerned with detonation and pre ignition with higher comp ratios.

I have the TPUSA kit with 11.5:1 CR, I run 93 octane with no issues. Gas here is usually 10% ethanol though.

At least that's one advantage of ethanol.

Ive done a lot of reading over the years on every possible kit out there and I have never heard/read of anyone with a TPUSA 904 kit complain about it. Its a more expensive kit overall but your getting some high quality stuff there vs. having to find a shop to press sleeves and hope they are done right. If I was going 904 Id go TPUSA but when I do go big its gonna be a 994. Ya know... bragging rights and all

I agree, why go half way. If you have to split the case to do any work, either the stroker crank or the oversize barrels, why not do both. Once your that far its the same amount of work. And you do not want to do it twice.
1200 in a AM/SM! they will have to use a scotchbrite pad to get the grin off your face.

Because stroking the crank is 2K and the gains are minimal. I mean c'mon, I'm not made of money

We are selling our TPUSA 904 kits with 11,5:1 CR since 2002. Our kits does not produce any detonation with California 91 octane pump gas. There is a myth that it needs octane booster or any additive to increase octane range.
