Getting some new skin for the rear wheel. I have been running Dunlop's, but I'm not satisfied with how long they last. Anyone reccomend a longer lasting tire?

That is usually a trade off Rich, longer lasting means harder compound and that translates into less traction. I run the IRC Wild Flare but that wears fairly fast but doesn't cost much. I am very happy with the performance of them wet or dry they hold the road very well.

I've heard good things about the Michelin Commanders. I just put on a set of Avon Venoms for the grip. Too soon to tell how they'll last.

If all you want is mileage, Kenda Cruz tires wear like iron. Not so good in the wet, but perform well on warm dry roads as their Durometer is so hard. I run Avons, they seem to hold the road the best in all conditions and I really don't care how long they last.

Looked up the M. Commanders. They are claiming to last twice as long as the average tires. I have always run softer tires for the grip, but I ride so slow nowadays (except when I'm with Dave and Chris) that I don't feel grip is that important. I'm just sick and tired of changing that darn rear tire every year, and sometimes twice.

You get what you pay for when tire shopping. I bet you bought the 404 because of price.  Suggestion: Metzeler 880. FWIW, I'll be looking at the new'ish Michelin Commander II next tire change.

I have well over6 or 7 thousand miles on my avon venoms. They have quite a lot left with no flat spot. I do believe in keeping them profiled correctly with good twisty roads.

when I got my america from Lonzo it had a Metzler ME880 on the rear. I dont know how many miles he put on it, but I put on almost 15K miles. So I last month I bought a new rear tire and checked out the ME888. The ME888 is a harder compound that will give more miles, but also a harder ride, so I stuck with the ME880. Grip is excellent.

Thanks for that! I've settled on the Commanders. And, thanks to somebodys help on this site earlier, I'm finally gonna order the hard to find 19" tires for my Russian bike. You guys rock!

Down with kendra or wh whatever. I have a rear kruz , 50% tred put me down when i touched a white line in the rain last summer.

NEVER EVER ride on a painted surface especially when wet, tire won't matter you just slide. Same with tar sealing strips and any metal surface.

I hit a tar snake going around a curve last week. Front tire slid a hair but nothing happened. It was a good reminder to watch out this summer.

Jumping on the Avon bandwagon, at least here. I liked them on 1 of my Moto Guzzi's years ago. I got a Roadrider (AM26 I think) upfront I think it was last summer, getting a AM42 Venom mounted tomorrow I hope.
I think I have only heard 1 regret on this board, so here goes.

Metzler's all the way if you want tires that last. Even my stock lasertech's help up excellent.
2008 Speedy, AI removed, DIY airbox destruction with K&N filters, spectres, re-jetted and "custom" rattle can paint job.
