While I may have moved on to a Tiger my America had a great influence on one of my best friends. When he learned to ride he went out and got one of his own!! Almost done putting it back together for the new season and it's looking so good I felt I just had to share it here.. So... Well.. Here it is! After pouring over the forums here again over the winter we decided to put on a set of Hagon Nitro's to better deal with the extra weight of the cases, a 2" riser to help him with his shoulder issues, relocated the Turn signals and threw on a fairing just because Memphis Shades told us it wouldn't fit.. All in all.. I think it turned out great!.. Now we just need to get more performance out of it for him. He did the pipes and tune.. I think the airbox will be next. Aside.. as long as I'm stopping by.. We were told that you couldn't use the heel/toe shifter with the boards because his bike is EFI.. Is there some magic reason that the EFI bike won't accept that bit of a metal see/saw to shift? Is there some mounting issue? The shop we ordered from wouldn't tell us anything other than.. "You can't do it".. Thanks all

Another example of the versatility of these bikes. As far as performance...you simply must try the 904, it is delightful.

Looks great with the batwing fairing!
Can you provide some parts numbers and/or additional info for those of us so inclined to desire a fairing?
Thanks,
Bluto

Great job on the bike mods. Seems odd you guys were told the heel/toe shifter will not work on EFI, I would be interested to hear the reasoning. However unless your sporting size 8 boots you probably will not like it, that's my experience anyway.

If you look at the 2nd picture there it shows how we mounted the fairing. And I'll add a couple more pics in a bit here as well..
He used to have 2 sets of lower air deflectors on his fork tubes.. Both from Memphis shades as well. I just pulled apart the fork mounts.. Put them on top.. then pulled the mounts off the tiny mounting rings for the batwing (the model used for the Honda Shadow 750).. A little finessing and they fit together. Now.. The upper tubes are tapered and the lower mounts don't secure to them. You can either measure and order appropriate sized rings or find a way to shim them with rubber or other material. Due to the offset and desire to use what we have we'll be doing a combination of a section from an old radiator hose and some hot glue to fill the gap.
We also had to modify the batwing just a touch. The headlight hole was too small. But luckily that entire assembly within the batwing is plastic and not fiberglass.. So we cut about a 5" piece off the bottom and cut/flared/flowered the rest of the headlight hole..
It's a snug fit to be sure. And no longer "Quick release" as you have to pull the auxiliary lights off the light bar to get it on or off.
To be honest.. As these things go.. This was pretty simple. Even the existing mounts for barn door of a screen he had on it previously were dangerously close to working with just a couple pieces of bent aluminum to secure it. Which begs the question as to why Memphis Shades claim that this will not work. They could provide some simple instructions and their off the shelf parts and open up a whole other line of bikes for their product.

So the fairing being made of plastic how does it react at say, 80 miles an hour. Or hell, 150 mph I'm mot familiar with the product so I'm curious how it compares to fiberglass.

The fairing isn't plastic. The fairing is a sturdy fiberglass. There is an insert, for lack of a better term, that surrounds the light and is built up on the inside of the fairing and glued to it. That part is a thermoplastic.

In order to prevent any new photos of your unnamed friend's motorsickle to either be deleted or reduced to a link, could ya size said new photos to 800x600? Take a look at how the first three have been modified. They (the re-sized images) are hot links, which link to the HUGE image size you originally posted.
Nice work on the America btw.

What trunk is that and how does it mount? I'd love a "tour pack".
