And i wish they weren't. Maybe it wouldn't bother others. In fact, one person here who showed me a pic of his apparently loves them. But mine have rivet (or maybe spot welds) marks on them that just look really bad to my eye. Theye are a few at the top and bottom of each shroud. With the smooth shiny chrome any defect shows up like a sore thumb. The rings on the inside that hold the rubber rings in place are either riveted or spot welded onto the shrouds from the inside, and the indents from them show on the outside. I think this is a horribly pathertic excuse for a chrome accessory IMO and i feel like i threw away $205. Not to mention about 3 hours of work to install them and change the fork oil.
It may not seem bad to some, but my eye is drawn to those marks every time i look at them. I want the stock ones back on but as much work as it is i don't know that i'll get around to it anythine soon if at all. And the worse part of all is that triumph gives you ZERO options to communicate with them, so they can sell all the junk they want and not have to deal with the aftermath. Thanks triumph.

It won't ease your pain, but yep, they're all like that. But I think the stock ones are too, you just can't see the welds as easily.

Mine are the same way and I never noticed it til they were already on. I looked rather carefully at the stock ones and there is no sign what-so-ever of a weld or dimple in the area where the chrome ones have theirs at. I was rather disappointed as well but like you and may other have already said, there nothing Triumph will do about it.

I looked but couldn't see them on the stock ones. if you look at them they have a lathed look like they're sanded of whatever. That probably takes the weld marks off.

Heck yea !! And they look great. i think it was ssjones and piper who posted pics. Maybe one more. I simply didn't want to do the work because it's too much area to do with a dremel and i don't have a bench grinder. Plus i saw a pic with chrome and they looked great. So i thought for $188+shipping it would be worth it. Boy was i wrong, but who'da guessed at the problem i found with them? But yea, there are a few here who've done it. do a search and you'll find posts with pics. I've done this to other aluminum and stainless parts and the results are great. The chrome ones do look great, but those freakin welds...arg !

Anyone have experience using "bomsaway" for buffing out the shrouds? Someone told me it works great? I don't even think they buff, just basically rub it in.

I'm the one that loves 'em. I was kinda startled when I first got them on and noticed the small rivet dimples. BUT, they look so much better to me than the stainless, I don't even see the dimples any more. They are very easy to keep up and really make the bike stand out. The ****** things should have been chrome to start with!

I was getting ready to post about this wonder stuff today. I used it on my brushed aluminum forks and levers two nights ago, and WOW! It is fantastic and completely non-abrasive. I bought two bottles for $20 a piece online. That is how impressed I was.

I am inexperienced at polishing aluminum, etc., so take my opinion for what it is worth. But, I bought the Bomsaway (www.bikecleaner.com) product on ebay for $15.00 and tried it on my front forks. Attached is the result after <5minutes. Also used it on the lower bowl of my carbs. I have to say, for the time spent, I am extremely impressed. Also did my brake/cluch levers with great results. Eliminates the need for me buying the chrome version of these parts!!!
Hopefully you can see the result in this pic where I applyed it on the left side only. Also did my Memphis shade brackets.
I'll post a different pic some day when it is sunny out.

So did you use a buffing wheel or just rub them out by hand? They look great.

Just put it on using the rag they supplied, by hand.

If anyone wants a like-new set of factory shroud covers (TA or SM), I have them for sale. They are in new perfect condition - not polished out.

Probably the same. I decided to put my stock shrounds back on so last nite i polished them and they look just like that pic. But i just used mothers mag and aluminum polish. Took about 5 min per shroud by hand. i'd have semichrome but i decided to use mothers because it's finer and i just wanted a better shine but didn't want to use the more abrasive simichrome because i felt it would do more to "erase" the fine tooling marks that give them that brushed aluminum look which is what i realized i like about them over the chrome shrouds. But yea, you can shine em up big time quickly by hand and simichrome followed by mothers should shine em up even more.

For what its worth, I threw my Simichrome away once I tried MAAS cleaner/polish. I love it. Easy on easy off, the more you buff the more it shines.

I have the mothers and simichrome. Maybe I'll try the MAAS stuff once I run out of one of the other ones Still, the big sore thumb in my front end will always be the lower tree.... WTF?!?

Sand and polish man ! I did and mine looks like chrome. A bit of work but worth it. Theres that casting ridge on the lower edge of the clamp.....i dremeled that flush with the face and then sanded with various wet and try grades till smooth as glass then polish. That thing ruins the front end till you do that. It;s a must !

I know dude, I want to so bad... But it's not gonna happen in the next couple months which means it's not gonna happen this year. Maybe next winter, and by then maybe I'll have a bench-top sander I can take off some material with, ya know? Then work on it some more. Heck, I'd even take the machined look of the top one, actually like that over chrome!

Bomsaway = good stuff. Bottoms with, tops without. <10 minutes effort.
