Hey guys I just bought a 2008 FI Speedmaster from Darwin sight unseen as a RWO.

Got it home and it wont start. Hooked up a charger over night and can turn it on and get an engine and oil light but nothing, not even a slight crank.

Not knowing the history and this being my first project attempt Im not sure where to start. Was hoping for a couple of ideas, thanks.

Hi Aron and welcome to the forum. You should get plenty of help here.

You problem could be very simple. Chances are your battery is near the end of its life. The EFI bikes have a voltage cutoff. The ECM (computer) won't let the engine start if the voltage falls below 12.6 volts under load (which is pretty annoying). So while your battery has enough grunt to turn the engine over, the ECM won't let it. I would try a new battery first as this problem is very common with EFI bikes. You battery has been sitting flat for a long time and you don't know it's history.

If that doesn't work ...

There are a few other easy things that it could be. The clutch engine cut off switch, the kick stand engine cut off switch or the fall switch could be damaged or gunged up. The ignition switch behind the key can sometimes be the problem too.

Cheers, Richard

What he said is most likely the problem.
start with a new battery.

Welcome Aron. You got some good advice to get started, let us know what you do and if there are still problems, ask again. Plenty of knowledge on this forum.

Hey guys, thanks for the warm welcome, and advice.

So a couple of mates came over yesterday and we swapped the battery from my VFR400 track bike over, started to click but just not enough. Then we jumped it to his car and walla, she cranked and ran nicely!

Very lucky indeed and cant wait to start the rebuild. For the moment its time to strip the broken parts off

That I can do. Ive taken the seat and bags off, along with the damaged header and brake. The bolt holding the riser is bent and the mirror, and indicator on the side are busted. The previous owner added twin headlights which I may or may not keep. Pretty excited as this is my third Triumph but my first cruiser (had a Daytona which was stolen and ride a Street Triple R at the moment.
