Hi. I bought my Speedy last June, with the intention of just using it on sunny summer days. But I enjoy it so much that I'm using it all year round:-) (I live in the UK, and the temperature was about 40 degrees F yesterday).

What screen do you guys recommend for protection from the wind? The smaller the better, as long as it works. To be honest I'd rather not fit one, because I don't really like the look of them, but I suspect that cold winter rides will be more enjoyable with one fitted.

i have 2 screens for mine, both aftermarket: a memphis fats and a fly screen. the fly screen looks great and keeps wind off the chest, mainly. the mf screen is a large 21 inches and works great. it fits a valkrie, i believe. someone here will know the numbers. it's quick release and comes off in under a minute w/ 4 bolts. it doesn't look bad either. kind of a retro old school cruiser look to it.

someone here put lowers on, too, which i'm considering doing.

here's a pick of the fly screen i bought from JCW. you need a screen that will fit 41 mm forks. i believe it was a valkrie also. i think i got my jcw flyscreen for 90 bucks-- much cheaper than triumph's screen.

I really like mine. I have the Trump Roadster screen and it is pretty big, but I would actually prefer a tad taller. Clearview makes a larger screen that bolts right to the Trump frame stuff.
Everyone i know with the little flyscreen says they are great at keeping your speedo bug free. But not much else.
Lots of good stuff about the Memphis shades too, good stuff mucho cheaper than Trump.

I have a roadster on the 04 Green (too big if you want small), but had a Givi A601 on the 03 Fast Red. The Givi is a great small (not micro) screen. Provides heaps of protection, but is subtle, not overpowering.

Can you post a pic with the other screen mounted?

I have the Vind Vest,the quality is great . Does not block a lot of wind but eliminates head buffeting.

I use:
19" Memphis Fats
19" too tall (i'm 5'11")- I look through the screen.
It's best to look just over screen, especially when raining.
Lots of wind from underneath, and head buffeting.
Really need lowers.

17" Memphis Slim
Actually a little warmer in winter, no updraft as with 19".
Almost no buffeting. Cut through air very well.
Very little resistance in crosswind.

Thanks all. The Givi A601 looks promising - big enough to work, without being overpowerinmg , as jj says. I'll be taking a closer look sometime soon.

JJ-If you don't mind me asking, how tall are you? How is the buffeting? I have it down to the Givi, Memphis slims or the Slipstreamer. The Memphis Slim is the most expensive of the 3. I want to use it mostly for trips.

I'm looking for a windsheild for my 04 Speedmaster. I'm concerned about the buffeting that I've seen reported for the Triumph Roadster screen so I'm looking for something similar but bigger.

I like the look of the "National Cycle Custom heavy duty" which is available from a UK supplier but they are unsure about the fixing kit. Cat mentioned that you "need a screen that fits 44mm forks". I've measured mine and they appear to be around 55mm.

Can any of you guys who have fitted a similar screen let me know what kit you used and how easy it was to fit the screen.

Here's what i went by for my Memphis fats (link).
I don't know about the National Cycle screen.
Someone here will, though

The brackets attach to the upper part of the forks, not the large down tubes.

Matt, I'm 68" on a good day. With the Triumph Roadster, the buffeting knocked my head around pretty badly at 80+. The Givi worked out very well, but took a huge rock during a ride and cracked. Was surprised it didn't shatter, very, very big rock... good screen. The Givi looked great on my Trident, and also looked pretty hot on the Fast Red, but the Roadster style seemed to fit the Green better (IMO). The buffet is reduced with lowers... this wasn't a problem at all with the Givi.

Simon, I was researching a screen for my Trident when I came across a website with a Trident and the Givi A601. It was a fabulous picture and I fell in love. The guy who owned it was a Brit, and had since let the bike go for a Honda. He was kind enough to pass on info about the screen/fitment, etc. It should be easy enough to obtain, they're Italian and very popular.

So for overall protection you would recommend the Givi over the roadster screen? I don't want to have wind buffeting around my head. That's why i would get a shield.

Is there a model from ClearView that we can use? A crossreference like we have to use whenever we order anything outside Brent or Belacorse. I visited Clearview's site, filled out the inquisition and the following is what I got back (no greeting, or Mr Call, or Dearest Dennis):

Matt, just one caveat with the Givi...
the instructions say to fit the screen, and then trim the installation rods to fit. I left the rods uncut so that I could use the extra length to occasionally adjust... then I noticed 2 small dings in the tank... from the rod ends. Be careful and after installing, SLOWLY do full lock turns. Don't cut until you get it where you want it, and try to leave enough to make adjustments without hitting the tank.

Reasonably priced (well, back in 98). Good choice.

I used the mounting bracket kit for a Suzuki Marauder (upside-down forks)to mount my National Cycle Dakota screen. A bit tight (I used 1 wrap of electrical tape to protect the fork shrouds rather than the thicker rubber gasket material supplied) but easy to fit and hasnt moved yet.

Thanks for that. From what I can gather the Suzuki Marauder mounting kit for most windshields seems to work. I've actually settled on a Memphis Shades Fats and tried to order one along with lowers from Accessories International yesterday but their on-line form didn't add add international shipping. I'm still waiting for a reply to my email re shipping costs. Perhaps they were celebrating Presidents day and I'll hear back today.

Thanks for all of your help on and off the forum. I've ordered a 17inch Memphis Fats and lowers from Accessories International. I figure that if I get buffetting I'll buy a Laminar lip and that way I'll stop the buffetting while still being able to see over the screen.

one thing i forgot to add is that some of us have installed a headlight visor from jcw. the theory is that it reduces buffeting... and i think it does. looks cool, too.

i installed the lowers this week (easy) and should be able to test them out this weekend. supposed to be mid-fifties.

I have the Triumph Summer Screen. It looks nice on my Speedmaster and it provides some protection for my body below my chin, but I get a lot of buffeting to my head. The top is about 13.5 inches above the headlight. I need it to be about 2 or 3 inches taller. I'm 6'2". I'm looking at the Memphis Shades Pop Top. 18W X 16H. I like the minimalist look.

does anyone have any exact model numbers for windshields that fit on the america fork shrouds and maybe some pics .I know there has to be some that fit from other bikes i just dont know what bikes. i'm looking for one like the roadster screen triumph has for mad dollars just cheaper any help will be very much appreciated

Cody: Clearview makes replacement shields for the summer screen hardware. There are 3 sizes, the biggest one is quite a bit larger than stock. I forget their number but I think the fellow I spoke to was Craig.

I certainly like the look of the summer screen better than the roadster ones but it's way too small.

I haven't bought a replacement windshield yet but I've done a little research for Memphis Shades. I couldn't find where anyone had put ALL the information in one post so here is what I found.

The Memphis Fats and Slims use the same mounting hardware so I'll use those for the example. Many posts say the mounting hardware for the Suzuki Marauder will fit our bikes, but the Memphis Shades website shows hardware for two Marauders; the VZ800 Marauder 97-04 with part number MEM9907, and the VZ1600 Marauder 04 with part number MEM9974. I searched the BA message base and then the old archives and found one old archive message with a reference of successfully using MEM9907. So I knew it was the Suzuki VZ800 Marauder hardware that I wanted. If anyone can verify this, please jump in. I assume the same would go for other brands of windshields as well.

BTW Duane, the hardware mounts to the fork tubes between the triple tree clamps and not on the shroud below the clamp. If you look and feel, the shroud is somewhat flimsy sheet metal and you don't want to fasten anything to that. Cat has a good picture example higher up in this thread or you can look at the mounting instructions at the Memphis Shades website.

I believe Piper and bmwhd both have Clearview replacements for their Roadster screens (archive search). Don't think either mentioned a specific name, only the Clearview 'replacement'. bmwhd was still getting some buffet and ended up getting lowers.

I can confirm that the "MEM9907 Mounting Kit - Marauder" works for the Memphis Shades windshield. I installed it on a TBA a few weeks ago.

Actually, this is exactly what I was looking for when I first started looking for a replacement wind screen.
I thought the 18" screen might be too high so I cut out some paper to those dimensions and taped it over my summer screen. The top comes right to the ridge of my nose, which I think would be just about right for wind protection and line of sight. It's hard to know exactly what I need until I put it on and ride with it. Decisions, decisions.
