I just saw on TV that Mr Harryhausen has passed away. He was a great pioneer in special effects. I enjoyed many of his stop motion films growing up. He was 92. RIP Jason and the Argonauts and Clash of the Titans are a couple I still enjoy among others and still hold up and are enjoyable today.

This says it all,
"George Lucas said, "Without Ray Harryhausen, there would likely have been no Star Wars".[15] Terry Gilliam said, "What we do now digitally with computers, Ray did digitally long before but without computers. Only with his digits."[15] James Cameron also paid tribute by saying, "I think all of us who are practitioners in the arts of science fiction and fantasy movies now all feel that we’re standing on the shoulders of a giant. If not for Ray's contribution to the collective dreamscape, we wouldn't be who we are." [15]"
Every normal man must be tempted, at times, to spit on his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin slitting throats.

I remember like it was yesterday when as an 11 y/o kid the whole Argo family went to see perhaps Mr. Harryhausen's greatest film Jason and the Argonauts in downtown L.A., and especially how that sword fight scene with the seven skeletons absolutely had me on the edge of my seat.
(...RIP Ray Harryhausen)

Mr. Harryhausen was my favorite movie maker although at 10 years old I had no idea who he was. I remember piling into my Dad's '62 Falcon wagon and seeing all of the new Harryhausen movies. Yes Dwight, the skeltons impressed and stayed with me for years to come. It was just about 2 weeks ago one of my satellite stations showed all of his movies back to back, I got to bed pretty late that night.
Ride like you mean it.

I also loved Jason and the Argonots and others. I think I loved the giant statue of Achilles that turned to life the best. Years later, I looked them up in the video rental store and my kids loved them just as much. Thanks Harry!

Yeah Ian, I watched it too. In FACT, here's the thread that somebody started over at TCM.com's forums that I responded to about this very film... (oh yeah, btw, I go by "Dargo2" over there...and no, I usually don't try to sound like Tonto over there) http://forums.tcm.com/thread.jspa?threadID=170066&tstart=0
