From memory – Its been a long time.
Remove battery holdown strap (metal strap)
Remove the battery cover (plastic shield)
Slide battery out far enough to remove the closest terminal
Tape over the terminal to minimize unplanned contact through remaining steps
Repeat for second terminal
Lace/thread the ‘tender’ cables from the battery cavity to your chosen terminus via your chosen route taking note of possible areas where chaffing may be an issue. Avoid or shield in that case.
Loop, coil and or tie your excess wire so it remains together and neat (optional)
Attach the terminals (battery and ‘tender’) to the battery posts in reverse of the steps above
Plug in and connect the tender. If you have a light, you have a circuit.
Re-assemble the cover
Disconnect the tender and go for a ride

Your battery is located on the left side. To get it out you must remove the strap that is held on by one screw.
Directly above the battery is a plastic fusebox cover that pops off. That should get you access.
Oops....Pipedr beat me to it

Here is a pic of
Duncan's bike that shows the area you are looking for. It shows the Battery Tender plug hanging out

Thanks, but, I do not see a screw to remove the strap. So, the seat does not have to be be removed ?

no....you have to remove chrome "cheese graiter" first bolt on the bottom, then plastic cover two bolts top and bottom and pull from rubber gromet on the key end, then you got to the metal strap bolt easy

I don't recall if it MUST come off but I reccommend you do take it off. If unnecessary, it will still be easier to see what you're doing and route your wiring.

Not to Hi-Jack your thread but I have a 2002 TBA that I bought new in June of 2002 and I still have the original battery in it and I never hooked it up to a battery tender or even pulled it out for the winter. It sits in an unheated storage unit and I hit the key in the spring and she fires right up. I know that I must have a freak or something to still be starting and working fine after 11 years of really no maintenance to speak of. I just seem to have better luck without a battery tender. Hope you have good luck!

Not really, I have the original battery in my 04 too and I never put a tender on that either. Mine also sits in and unheated shed all winter. The battery in my lawnmower is the same way and that just gets left parked in the grass when I am done cutting it until I need to use it again.

Where abouts in Ohio are you? I am in the Pittsburgh area. Actually about 40 miles north of Pittsburgh and about the same to the Ohio border.
