What is it for?

So I'm installing a Boss MC400 speaker system on my bike and was looking for a place to mount the amp. I determined that a likely good place is in the recess formed by the plates that make up the intersection between the frame spine, downtube and steering head.

While feeling in there to make sure that there was room, I notice that there is a big rubber grommet with a "handle" on the backside of the steering head in the recesses of the frame.

Does anyone know, what is it for?

Strange. I looked on both Triumphs and couldn't see a "handle", but there is a pretty good hollow spot back there just forward of the coils. I'm thinkin' that's gonna be mighty hot for an amp in there.

Hey Wade, weird - on my 2005 in front of the coils up inside the recess there's a big oval grommet up on the backside of the steering head with a definite "handle" to pull the grommet out.

As far as the amp goes - it's pretty low powered and the cables that come out of it are pretty short. I wanted to put it under the seat but there is no way that the volume control will reach without the amp being close to the bars and the volume control cable has 8 wires in it which would be a PITA to extend. Also I figure that the recess is probably the least likely to get wet if I get caught out.

I may reconsider though as I didn't think it would get that hot.

Here's the grommet I'm talking about. It's part 22 on the part list. From the diagram it looks like they are showing it on the head lock but it's inside of the recess.
