I have been noticing my speedmaster is getting hard to start lately, does not seem like it turns over fast enough. keep at it and the battery runs down in maybe 5 minutes of starting attempts. If i hook up the 10 amp charger it starts right up.

I put the I put a new battery in less than 2 years ago. It spent the winter on a battery minder.

Putting a volt meter on the battery while it is running shows 12.5 volts. Revving up to 3000 rpm makes the voltage increase slightly but over 4000 it starts to drop. THe manual says it should be 14 volts at 4000 rpm.

anybody else have this? could it be a regulator/rectifier?

Thanks, I will do that mod, it makes sense.

I took the pro com off and put the gill CDI back on. No more starting problem.
Per pro coms site low voltage will make the unit not work right.

The rectifier mod is done and works as advertised. Picked up almost 2 volts. Thanks for the suggestion
It turned out to be a bit more challenging than expected though. The connector that plugs the rectifier into the wiring harness was routed between the frame and engine case, making it impossible to pass thru.
Rather than drop the engine, I cut the wires, added 2 inches to each wire and a new ground wire, soldered the whole mess back together, and then routed the wiring as shown in the manual.
I haven't put the pro com back yet to see if that is okay. It fires right up on the stock CDI though. And the lights appear brighter.

Anyone done this on an 06 BA? Without a diagram i have 4 wires and I can say with some confidence that the black one with the red stripe is positive; the ground is which one? Where do I tie in the other two wires, or can I just get the right r/r from roadstercycle having connectors that will fit w/o having to remove the airbox? Update: i have 5 wires.
