Has anyone ever had the tail running light go out but the break light work? I was adjusting my headlight, and somehow it shorted. replaced the fuse, break now works, but no running light. I have to check all the wires in the bucket. I hope its in there since that is what I was messing with when all the problems started!

Try replacing the stop/tail lamp bulb first, you may have blown this filament.

Might check fuse 8&10 while you're at it. Does the parking light illuminate? Might be easier to switch over to the aux side of the ignition switch and see if you get "position" lights fore and aft.
And, yes, I've had the running light filament blow out before and had to replace the tail lamp.

Is the light on the speedometer on ? If not it probably is the fuse & not the bulb. The tail & break light functionality is on different circuits, the instrument light & tail light is on the same fuse.

I had a similar problem last year. After replacing my headlight bulb I kept blowing the fuse for my signal and brake lights. I must have spend 15-20 hours trying to track down the problem. Eventually, after reassembling everything for the 20th time the fuse stopped blowing. I don't know what the actual problem was nor am I willing to go looking for the reason. Sorry not much more help.

OK are you saying position 8 and 10 or an 8 and 10 amp fuse? I checked every fuse in the box and did not see one burned other than the 10 amp for the break that I replaced. I didnt think to look and see if the instrument lights were working, thanks for the tip. So Ill replace every fuse, and it looks like Im still gonna have to open up th bucket and see whats mor than likely shorting out. Fuses #8 & #10. Those two. And did the parking lamp and running light operate when the key is switched to aux?

So true, I think the only time I've ever used it was by accident and even then it just ran the battery flat.

YEA! FIXED IT! As it turns out the rubber gasket/oring around the backside of the light bucket had come off. (Note to older bike owners, check this) I found 4 wires in the bundle that had zero plastic left on them. Luckily I had not freyed any of them. Also one ugly connection from the factory with electricle tape (not heat-shrink) sliding off. So in comes new tape AND some of the liquid electricle tape. I seperated all the frayed wires and hit them with the liquid stuff. Then the liquid went all over the bottom of the whole bundle for safety. Put rubber ring back on with some RTV injected under the lips of it to hold it on. Checked for power. ok recheck fuses. Even using a magnifying glass I couldnt see any burnt. So I said the heck with it. I replaced every 5,10, and 15 amp fuse in the block. tested. I dont know why nothing looked bad and didnt work, I dont know exactly which fuse fixed it, but now it works and all the corroded original fuses have been replaced (minus the 30Amp ones) so for 10 bucks its fixed

Ah, the old chafed wire in the headlight bucket again. Good on you for finding them.
