R.I.P Margaret Thatcher. Although not universally liked a true example of British bulldog spirit and a strong will and I doubt there will be another like her.
I've had a good life - if reincarnated I'd change nothing!!

Lots of talk about the special US / UK relationship on the news. Love her or hate her she had bigger cojones than most of the men that served under her. RIP Maggie

Thatcher dead. I'm sure she'll meet up with her old pals, like Robert Maxwell and Gereral Pinochet. Worlds a better place without the likes of her.

Yeeeeah, gotta say I'm probably mourning the passing of Annette Funicello today a little more than I am of Thatcher's. (...though shallow person that I am, that MIGHT have somethin' more to do with the thought that Margaret never looked quite as good in a one-piece swimsuit as Annette did!)

The biggest criticism I heard on BBC, was her handling of the nationilized industries and mining. Entire communities were devastated by the Socialized and false economies surrounding them. The Unions were going to run the UK to ruin. She didnt tolerated it.
She was also criticized for being "anti-Europe". A lesson could be learned today to not follow the economic failures taking place there now.

Thatchers economic record, enjoy...
1980. Inflation at 20%
1981. Negative growth, investment down 11% on 1979 interest rates at 18%. Mass civil unrest with riots in Liverpool, Birmingham and London.
1982. £ in free fall, unemployment continues to rise, corporate bankruptcies number 11,131 for the year (Still a record today)
1983. Unemployment hits 3 million, manufacturing output 30% below that of 1978.
1984. Interest rates at 12%, unemployment continues to rise, BT flogged off.
1985. £ hits a new low of $1.05, unemployment hits 3.5 million.
1986. 1p cut in income tax (Gen election soon)
1987. Black Monday 26% wiped off the stock exchange.
1988. Interest rates at 13%, British Steel flogged off, income tax cuts for the wealthiest announced.
1989. Interest rates at 15% growth at lowest since 1982. Ten water companies flogged off amid huge criticism they were sold far too cheaply (Thatcher needed quick cash) Chancellor Lawson resignes in protest, Chancellor Major takes over at the onset of Thatchers second recession.
1990. Inflation at 11%, electricity industry flogged off.
1991. UK still in recession, growth for the year was -2% (thats minus 2%) Home repossessions peak at 79,000 for the year.
And that ladies and gents is Thatchers economic record, shamefull isn't it. Thatcher was great for the minority at the expense of the majority And this is what you call leadership.

Hmmm . . . let me think, she supported Pol Pot and Pinochet, petulantly stopped the free milk for schoolchildren program and claimed that Nelson Mandella was a terrorist.

Oh noes! Let's all pretend the British economy was glorious in the 1970s. Let's all pretend that her opposition that railed against her economic policies for a decade reversed them when they came to power. Let's pretend she didn't correctly predict the predicament of the Euro. Let's pretend the Iron Lady, along with a Pope, a President and a Polish union weren't instrumental in bringing down a wall. The daughter of a grocery shop owner rose to power on her own grit, not by marriage or inherited wealth, she was the real deal, RIP Lady Thatcher

OK. Truth be truth. Opinion be opinion. A nice human being has passed. A funeral is an inappropriate time to criticize the one in the casket. Call me old fashioned or whatever, but I do try to have respect for the deceased. I sorta figured this would go in a political direction.

She was also instrumental for closing the Triumph workers Co-op at Meridan. So for that alone she should burn in hellfire for eternity. Likewise John Bloor should be the next person made a saint.

It's amazing how nasty the left is when a conservative dies. I think it says a lot more about them than it does those whose memories they try to smear. Without Thatcher, Reagan and Pope John Paul II the Soviet Union would likely still exist, I think that's what upsets them the most. RIP Maggie!
We all like to think of ourselves as rugged individualists. But when push comes to shove most of us are sheep who do what we are told. Worst of all, a lot of us become unpaid agents of whoever is controlling the agenda by enforcing the current dogma on the few rugged individualists who actually exist.

Actually, the USSR collapsed under its own economic weight. "State Planners" were unwilling to turn control over to any mid-level or local levels. There were no incentives to create anything new. It became gangrenous and pretty much shriveled up and died.

I'm not sure how she ever supported Pol Pot, he left power in 1979 the same year she came to power. Did she and the USA feed the non-communist elements of the Khmer Rouge during the 80s, yes.
Was the African Nationalist Congress (ANC) ever considered a terrorist organ? That might be why Mandela went to jail in the first place.
Pinochet? read some history of the Falkland War to understand Thatcher's treatment of him.

She (along with China and the US) backed him while in exile in Thailand. Furthermore, Margaret Thatcher expressed, to the consternation of the Foreign Office, that "the more reasonable ones in the Khmer Rouge will have to play some part in a future government". I'm going to try to shut up now. . . .

The UN, the whole world, recognised his government as legitimate as a way to negotiate the occupying Vietnamese to withdraw from Cambodia. Regardless of the Foreign Office's consternation, they were wrong, when peace returned to Cambodia, a constitutional monarchy was established with the help of non-communist, non-maoist Khmer Rouge Thatcher was vindicated.

I'll respond to the former: You have NO clue as to the magnitude of that comment, you should be ashamed and you bring a reproach to the biker community as well as basic humanity with that caustic inhuman remark. And as to the latter : PLEASE DO.
I hope the mods close down this thing. It began with good intentions and respect and has digressed beyond what is regulated by the AUP as well as basic human dignity.

I dont know much about her or her leadership. I do however know its pretty damned evil be wish a person to burn in hell and poor character to be glad one dies. She hasnt been the PM for many years, some loved her some not so much. At least some decency and good taste should be shown in this case.
