I came across this link in a home improvement forum and it has to be seen to be believed. The Shed of Doom If building isn't your thing, well, in line with the epic fail theme, there is a link to an amazing Harley buried in there....

Brilliant! I like his little particle board ramp!
I would be unstoppable if not for law enforcement and physics.

Yep Carl, that shed the Korean-born gentleman is building using his own "methods" is of course doomed to last just a bit longer than the proverbial "house of cards". However, and while I probably shouldn't take this conversation in this direction because I know where the following discussion might lead(with a whole lot of "soap box standing"), I found it more than a little ironic that his neighbor who seems so aghast at his neighbor's construction "techniques" and who posted this thing on the internet for all the world to see, also evidently feels the need to use the following permanent tagline in all of his postings at that website: Quote:
"I dread beyond all else the growth of the petty tyranny of restrictive legislation, the transference of disciplinary authority from the judiciary to the constabulary, the abandonment of every constitutional safeguard of individual liberty."
Ya see, the reason I find this so "ironic" here is of course because his neighbor OBVIOUSLY didn't submit any plans or even attempt to obtain a freakin' BUILDING PERMIT from any local governmental authority in charge of such matters!
(...yep, I found that very "ironic" alright, and EVEN a little funny!)
Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

Yes I agree "D", its a bit of irony that those who wish others not to interfere into their own life, want them to do so when they don't like what someone else is doing.
I find that hypocracy alot here in Texas. None will ever have that problem from me. All I have to say about the shed which shall not stand long and its builder is, "shine on you crazy diamond".

Chad, this reminds me...I've heard that the city of Houston has no zoning laws on its books. Is that true?

After spending way too much time reading that thread, the OP is not complaining about his landlord's right to construct the building (or obvious lack of permits). Other posters who have suggested reporting him to "the authorities" have been quickly quashed. There's a whole live-and-let-live attitude ~ let's all just watch!
I just hope there'll be a time-lapse of the final moments of the Shed of Doom.

no its not. There are huge numbers of zoning laws, but what is worse here is home owners associations. These home owner associations are insane. I have several griends who bought into these things and regret it. One has to submitt for approval to change the kind of flowers in his flower bed. I never live in such places, but they are every where here.
The zoning laws here are more about commercial, industrial, and residential. There are city inspectors to makes sure your the electric and such is up to code.
I have no faith in human perfectability. I think that human exertion will have no appreciable effect upon humanity. Man is now only more active - not more happy - nor more wise, than he was 6000 years ago.
