while the forward fender support bolts are out (at work being lathed for turn signals), i pushed the fender down, so the outer support rests on the inner. so it's being supported but not bolted down. this is MUCH cheaper than lowering the legit way. filthy proletariat such as myself can't afford such things as suspension. so, how stupid is it? i'd imagine it'll hold just fine, even with my <120 lb girlfriend, but i'm interested in the input of brains better equipped than mine. here's a pic: LARGE Picture

If it works for you then its not stupid at all. Its ok to be unconventional. Lowering suspension affects the ride. If you are happy with the ride but want a lower profile, it sounds like a good plan to me.

I have a leather clad sportster front fender on mine because I wanted it. I will post a pic when I can.

I don't think its a good idea at all to ride around with something unbolted that is part of the load carrying part of the bike.

The pic shows the front bolt out,the op talks of leaving it out. Thus, his words " so it's being supported but not bolted down"

Oh yea. If ya gonna do it ya gotta bolt it down. Cant leave it just hangin 'specially if ya gonna have a pillion rider. Drill and bolt my friend, drill and bolt. I wouldnt ride any where with a lose fender.

If ya want to make it look lower and give it a lower profile in have the rear by all means lower the fender, but do it right my friend.

yeah, i was thinking i'd drill and bolt. might have to grind away a bit of the tip of the frame. hell, be able to go even lower that way. would look so badass once i lowered suspension proper.

If I did what you are doing I wouldnt drop the suspension. You lose handling plus ya could cause the tire to scrub inside the fender. Lowering the fender is about the best idea I have ever heard for getting a low profile look with out lossing handling ability. In fact I am tinkering with the idea of that rather than bobbing mine. I was going to bob the ba k fender off but now am concidering using strapps to bottom my shocks out the lower the fender to one inch from the tire. Letting the shocks back out and mounting down the fender. Even if it means ****** canning the old fender strutts and fabbing up some new.

I figure an inch shorter progressives and not going too radical with the fender should be pretty decent. Glad you dig the idea!
