 And here I WAS was gonna say "what's wrong with that picture" MIGHT be the lighting! (...aaah, but then of course I'm no expert in the art of photography, ya know)

Taken on the fly with an iPhone, 3 generations past... ha ha! Don't expect too much!
Yep, most people here are more concerned about protecting from the sun (they hate dark skin) than actual safety protection. I didn't include a pic of mom-in-law, but she was a sight! Covered almost as much as a nomad in the desert!
The only time they'll wear boots, is when walking in a field of high grass... can't see the darn snakes! So, they'll wear cheap rubber rain boots, so when the snake bites, the venom will be injected right past the rubber, and not past the skin!

Yeah Jeff. I hear that old Asian cultural idea that only "the lower rung such as field workers have suntans" is still deeply imbedded over there.
In fact, one of our neighbors, an older Asian lady who walks the neighborhood daily is always all done up just like you said your mother-in-law is.
(...the first time I ever saw her, I thought to myself, "Looks like we have a beekeeper around here who's misplaced their hives!")

We always seem to want what we can't have easily.
They want white skin, even though 15 min in the sun results in the most beautiful dark tan for so many over here... me, so jealous!
They hope to have big noses and envy foreigners with huge noses....
Men want their girlfriend to be versed in the act of love... but later, want a wife that was never touched before.
Women want to find a rich husband and never work anymore, spend time in shopping malls and cafes with their other women friends.... oh wait, that's shared all around the world! ha!

And I've seen at least one of them every time I go hiking, or river tracing...
Worst so far though is a Boa, not poisonous, but scared me so badly! Just from the size of it.
