No way... So I can swap a 865 in place of my 790? I may pee my self.
I talked to a welder about my cracked case and he basically laughed! And for the price of the motor, id rather swap em out. And swap the cams!

If you have a procom you should be able to make it work. Just reprogram the procom.

If its a 270° fire time motor then you shouldnt have to do anything at all. But like said above I would put the 790 cams in . Because you are carburetted the only thing the cdi does is the timing curve and rev limiter.

I would do both. Get the 865 drop it in the bike have the 790 repaired. Now ya have two motors or the beginings of two bikes. Either way ya can't lose.

Probably not going to fix the 790, its got 30k and a wreak charging system. Probably just going to take the cam and part out the rest to offset the cost of all the starting stuff I just put in. Going to start the swap Friday.

Maybe even another hundred thousand. 30k is just broke in. I know there are some on here who have a hundred thousand on their bike and they are still running strong.

Might be too late if you went ahead with purchasing a new engine....but just incase... I had the same problem with my 05 TBA and pinned the sprag shaft in place. If I remember correctly, drilled about 1/4" to 3/8" into both the crank case and engine cover, and ran a pin through the center of the shaft. I don't think I spent more than $50 - mainly on the pin. Run about 10k miles since, no issues.
