We weren't gonna go cause of the cold weather, but looks like it should be 77-79f this weekend, so that's not too bad. Our Cafe-Moto m/c group is going this Saturday, first to the vintage swap meet at Cabbage Patch around noon, then on to Beach St. & Main St. for mid-afternoon/evening. In years past, I think someone said there's a favorite meet-up place for BA.com members at some campground. Anyone goin' this weekend or next? Might get together for the afternoon . Just don't want to be out when temp's drop below 70.

Lynn and I are heading to the infield today. Demo rides. More likely simple sitting on various bikes. Our goal is to demo a Gold Wing preferably all one color (2013).

Jennifer and I should be out this Friday. I will be in Vegas for work until then, but planning on meeting up with Tom Vance and company on Friday 3/15. Have a swim meet this weekend, so spotty attendance on any other days besides Friday. Dang it Moe, we would have loved to see you both, but we were in Sarasota for another swim meet until late on the 9th. Did you buy you a Honda?

Have a good time Jim!
Our group went Saturday. We had over twenty bikes, of EVERY type/brand you can think of. Duc's (old & new), Triumph crusers & sportbikes, Hondas, Kaw's, etc.
Ready to leave for Daytona.

You'll notice the blue tags on most. That is the Badge of Honor with these guys. VINTAGE!

Here's a couple of pic's of some of the "Flagship" bikes.

And you know what Dwight? Your right! IF you dress properly (Thermal undies), 70 IS possible, as the photo below will support.

If ya'll would like to see the other bikes in this group, check out our link.

(I should have SOME of the 170 pic's my wife took of the group ride Sat. posted by tomorrow)
Peace!

Yep, sorry erle, but those are all newer belt-driven OHC Ducs, not older bevel-drive Italian beauties.

To make matters worse, I was thinking of the Moto-Guzzi (With the white tank) when I said there was an "Old Duc".
And since I can see a chain drive, I guess you were talkin' about a belt driven cam?

Does Triumph do demo rides anymore? Went to dealer today and was told Ducati was comming thursday. No Triumph. Wanted to test ride a Storm and 800 Tiger XC. Was told if I want to buy one, I can Test Ride.

Honda doesn't do demo trucks anymore. for the past five years anyways. grrr. But Jeff Bodine is part of the dealership demo network. I can go there and ride a GW. HOWEVER. A Thomwill syndrome has settled on this camp. I learnt whoo to seey Venture! Yep, Yamaha Royal Star Venture S. Heading out this morning so I can be in the Yamaha Q at 8am sharp, Daytona speedway. Going to ride their Venture. What amazes me is the Venture has a 5 year warranty unlimited mileage. Dang. Still carbed too. I'll most likely go the Thomwill route and buy used, but what the hay, might as well test ride new! After the ride on the Royal Star, gonna head over to the polaris truck and ride the Judge. Rode Fishercat's bike last Saturday. (Cross Country Tour) Not for us... But the victory truck is like barren of folks. So will most likely not only ride the Judge but ride every other model they have! I hate free demo rides! btw I didn't see the Trumpet truck. Speaking of Newnan, Yamaha assembles their metrics in Newnan! Old dog learning new things eh? Saturday, March 9th... click on thumbnails for full size images Yesterday at Greybeard's Barn, Mims/Scottsmore FL

Does Triumph even still have the traveling Demo Truck, Jim?
I Googled "Triumph Demo Truck schedule 2013" and the only thing that came up was stuff no later than 2011.
And, it sounds as if there's also been a little change in demo policy since the early days of Triumph's return and when it seemed almost all dealerships were required by Corporate to have demo models available to the public.
(...and if this IS the case, then lemme guess here: fear of potential liability claims is the reason I'll bet, huh!)

2011 was the last year for the demo truck

The Dealer in Daytona said if I was going to buy bike, could test ride it before purchase. Kind of like trying on jeans befoe you buy them. No more demoing differnt bikes and then deciding your interest.

I know for a fact that there has been a few cases in the past were some Triumph dealers have had demos rides end in tragedy, Andy. And so, as I wondered above about "liability claims", I have a feelin' that that has contributed to the almost demise of the demo practice among them.
Yep, it could be that, and the idea that keeping a line of demo bikes available at and by the dealers isn't a cost effective proposition for them, either.
(...though yeah, I agree with ya...not only is it inconvenient for the consumer, but it's come to be like that old saying of "buying a pig in a poke" too, huh!)

Appreciate the info. Still would like to demo a Storm and a 800 xc. Talked with a Ohioan who bought a Storm and he really Liked it. Guess I will stick with the America, hope to put 200,000 miles on her. Only 77,000 to go.

WOW!!! You have(wait...let me do the math here...) 123,000 miles on your America???!!! Now THAT'S impressive!!! (...and doin' the math here AGAIN, most likely why you only have 310 posts at BA.com since '05, and where as I have just 37,000 miles on MY '02 BA but yet over 17,000 freakin' posts around here...yep, good for you, Andy!!!...it seems YOU ain't been wastin' YOUR time like I HAVE all these years, EH?!!)

Yamaha has a demo truck. (two rides per day) Victory does too. AND Victory let's you re-enter the que as you finish a test ride. (unlimited rides per day) Rode the Judge, then the Hammer 8 ball. Judge was fun. Handlebars too far forward for me. Hammer was fun but fat in the turns and a lot of effort to get it to lean. Both of them dragged pegs like a female dog in heat spots floors... Judge Hammer Venture - Sweet ride. (for the pig it is) Now to find a good price on a used one. Tennessee maybe or one of those States where they can't ride all year long and they grow tired of the beast.

What about the Kawasaki Voyager? Sat on one of those last year, and it was a completely redesigned model. Was pretty comfy..
Oh, I am back from Vegas, and feeling like I am 1,000 years old. Perfect mindset to go fight the Harley crowd. Need to call Tom Vance and see where they are.

Lynn on Connie! LOL. The big tourer is not for me but for her. So pillion comfort is paramount. Unfortunately a Connie doesn't fit that bill. But I would love to have one anyways!

Went up for the week and camped out at the ABATE campground. Pub 44 was closed, which was a surprise. The Antique bike auction didn't happen. Woods productions decided not to have it this year and probably never will again during Bike Week. Triumph, Ducati, BMW again didn't have trailers at the speedway and didn't have demo rides. Several other manufacturers didn't show up this year as well. Sat on a Trophy 1200 at the dealership. Nice bike, and definitely going after the BMW crowd. Surprised that the price was about the same as the equivalent BMW bike.
Test rode a couple Victory bikes, and several HD bikes. Surprised by the power and handling of the HD full dresser. At 65MPH in 6th gear it was only pushing 2200rpm and no vibration. The 103 engine w/screaming eagle package, and the 6 speed gear box seemed to be a great fit. Everyone that rode the V-rod was impressed with the endless power and sport bike handling.
Just sorry we didn't get together with Ryan and Jennifer. Bobbie did come up on Friday, and was surprised at how big our camping compound was. Six guys camping and we occupied an area a little bigger than 80'X200'.
Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.

I see from this picture of this year's Daytona 200 miler that the attendance of one of the used-to-be premiere motorcycle races on the planet is continuing to flounder, eh Tom! It's amazing to me that they're still even running it, considering from the impression I'm gettin' here that Daytona's Bike Week is now mostly attended by either those seeking a demo ride, purchase apparel or accessories, or pose on their Harley-Davidson motorsickles.

It is being financed by billionaire Jim France, in fact, that goes for just about the entire AMA racing circuit. Most of the people who still attend are in the infield. My son actually went with some friends and got a nice photo with 19 year old Triumph rider Elena Myers.
We only made it out Saturday night to the 'Horse, and there was no question in my mind that the crowds were way down. Sorry to miss the gang, which is the only real reason for me to go to Bike Week.
Tom, Pub 44 met its demise a while back, came back as an upscale restaurant and only lasted a few months. I have had some hilarious times there including having too much to drink to hold my Sprint upright. Good thing they have cabs in New Smryna. When you get back from your next trip, give me a call, and I will ride down to meet you guys!
