The picture on the gas tank is kind of lame, and I'm not sure I understand the springs on the fork tubes (in place of gaiters?), but over all, I think it's pretty bad ass and I would ride the crap out of it. The TT pipes are a nice touch.

Everything but that weird painting on the top is cool looking.

You'll see that a lot on old Norton and especially custom built old "Triton" Cafe Racers, Dave...like this one...

And so I think that's the look the builder was goin' for here.

And re this T-Bird Cafe Racer...yeah, I think it's kinda cool lookin'...but BOY, can you imagine tryin' to throw all that WEIGHT of a T-Bird "Cafe Racer" around in the twisties?

I mean, a stock T-Bird weighs about 200 MORE pounds than our bikes do, and I just can't imagine the builder was a able to pare down all that much weight with this bike.

That and the external springs harken back to old Triumphs too, I have a couple like that.

Yeah Dwight, I see what you're saying there, but it looks like the stock forks on the T-Bird with the springs added... Are the forks on the Triton hydraulic with external springs?

As far as I know Dave, it's one of those "either/or" kind of things. I think it all depends on the look a Triton builder prefers. Some like the look of the external springs, while others prefer the internal spring look.

On British motorcycles the external spring forks predate the internal spring variety, and so the builders of Tritons and other Cafe Racers may like the older look and that's probably why you'll see those a lot of the time.

My guess is that the builder of this T-Bird Cafe Racer probably likes that look also, and so he probably added those external springs "for show".

I wonder how they balanced the external springs with the internals so it isn't overly stiff? Or do you think they removed the internals and made it truly old school?

I'm not a fan of the wide rear tire on a bike that's meant to be nimble. And, it kinda looks like two different teams worked the build fore and aft without looking at the lines as a whole and then added that tank airbrush art from a third party. Still looks like a fun ride.

I suppose it's possible the guy removed the internal springs on that T-Bird, Ed. However, I have a feelin' he probably just went with a set of lightly sprung springs on the outside and kept the internals as they were.

And yeah, I tend to agree with your "two different teams working fore and aft theory", though you have to consider besides that wide rear wheel, he was working with the stock frame, a cruiser frame at that, with its lowered rear end and lowered seat configuation, and which isn't conducive to an overall Cafe Racer look.

And so with those limitations, I think the final look is about as good as it could be.

I guess maybe I'm just too picky and I like the cuff to match the collar when it comes to custom work. I'd still like to ride it :-)
