I could not find anything current when doing a search. There was a thread on proposed legislation in 2005 but nothing enacted. I plan on being in the Texas hill country this summer and was wondering if there was anything specific that I should know concerning motorcycle operation in Texas. Like helmet requirement for example.

There isn't a helmet law in Texas, and lane splitting is illegal. Besides that, follow the regular rules of the road and you should be fine.
Not you fat Jesus!

In Texas, it is a requirement to have at least one open container of beer (Lone Star prefered) for each person, also a loaded handgun. Drive down any road in Texas and you'll see what I mean.
A word to the wise is not necessary. It is the stupid ones who need the advice.

If a beer and loaded handgun are the basic requirements I'm in good shape for my Texas trip.

The AMA website has a list of states and laws. No... a helmet is not required in TX... if you're over 21 and can show 10k of medical that will cover injuries from a motorcycle accident.

Thanks for that post. A good site. I should have thought of the AMA. It answered all my questions.

Yep, you actually have to get a sticker from the state once you provide the state with the proper insurance documents that you stick on your licence plate that says you are exempt from the helmet law. The sticker is on your plate, so cops will know not to pull you over for not wearing a helmet. The funny thing is I have NEVER even seen one of these stickers before! I have never heard of anyone getting hassled about there helmet (or lack there of).
Learning from my mistakes... again and again.

The Texas Hill country is some nice riding. I get to that area about every 2 years and enjoy the riding. I do both, ride with a helmet and without one. I have never had a problem either way.
BA has Freak, 160mains, 44pilots, air mix3 1/2 to 4 turns, BUBS dresser dogs. Never had more fun on any bike - 2nd bike 2008 RIIIT

In addition to having $10,000 of health insurance for injuries resulting from an accident, Texas will also give you this sticker instead, if you take a Motorcycle Safety Course and send them the Course Card Serial Number and $5.00. It's good for 3 years. Here's a link to the form. www.txdps.state.tx.us/ftp/forms/msb-7.doc

FACT: You do not "need" a sticker. The Texas code is clear; it does not mention the need for a sticker, only the ability to prove insurance OR a rider's safety course completion certificate (The 'OR' is important). The sticker requirement is a myth; you are just doing a courtesy to the Texas DPS (and paying $10 crispy dollars to do so). The sticker thing is a scam and I laugh at those who fall for it! Almost as funny as the PWT idiots who buy lottery tickets to help send my kids to school.
Hehehehehehehehehehehe...
Cheers (and don't forget to play your weekly lottery suckas!),
