Went to the local outdoor range yesterday with a friend who just picked up an Ar-15 last week. Wow- what a blast- the last time I fired one of these it was called an M-16 in the mid seventies. Lotsa fun it was no doubt. He got the thirty round magazine and I pitched in for some ammo. Makes me want to save my pennies for one of my own now. I am not starting a legality of ownership issue here nor to have any debate on it at all. Just saying as a sport shooting vehicle it sure beats a Daisy BB-gun. LOL

They are a blast, no doubt. I haven't messed with one in years. Did fire some fully auto 9mm small machine guns a couple years ago. What a blast.

A squad automatic weapon LOL- now that'd rile up some folks at least inadvertantly. Last year I served on the day I had to fire the 16 they had a fifty cal out for training security police and they let a few of us sit behind it and squeeze off a few. Ma Duece has been around for an eternity and still today she is impressive to say the least.

I had the honor of being the SAW guy in a Marine platoon for a few yrs. Never got to fire the m2,I did have a crush on the mk19 after I saw it used a few times.

Hey Kevin, good to see you.

The AR-15 is fun, and a darn accurate platform.

If you enjoyed that, get a Saiga or other AK variant in 7.62x39. Cheap to shoot but with more punch in that caliber.

For real fun get an M1 Garand or M1A.

Yup, got one of each. A real blast (sorry, couldn't resist...) to shoot, kinda takes your breath away when you pull the trigger. A bit costly to feed these days though.

I got to shoot one last summer. One of my friend is a local cop and he needed to get in some practice before re-qual. I can't beleive how accurate they are, I was hitting bullseye at 75 yrds (iron sights) and before that I hadn't shot in about 8 yrs.

I'm jealous

I'd like to shoot semi-autos again.
I'd love another M14[M1A]and another SKS but we're not allowed evil "semi auto" guns here these days.I loved my Swedish Ljungman most of all.
I just have my bolt and lever guns to use now.

How's that going to work with the ban?

I thoroughly enjoy my M4, it's a great way to use up Russian Wolf ammo! For percision & distance shooting I still prefer bolt action rifles, and for knock down my Nagants (7.62x54R) are powerful, accurate, and CHEAP!.

Ban is in NY only so far we can buy them but we can build them. We just had to hire 10+ people to assemble and pack because we cant keep up with orders. Even if the us bans them every one that wants on is buying them.

Suck up that OT! No better job out there then armsmaking. That's my shtick as well except its more along the lines of missile parts and armored vehicle outfitting. Peace through superior firepower in your home or across the seas!!

The more talk about limiting weapons, the more I want. You know the Mfgs and Dealers are loving it. Our local gun shop has Concealed Carry classes each Saturday. Simple process - show up at 0900 to sign in for the 1000 class. Last weekend, they say the line had over 50 people at 0700. By 0830, the class had reached their limit of 130 people.

I just wish there was an outdoor range somewhere nearby.

A few years ago, I spent some time in the Postal Inspection Service simulation room. It was all fun and games until they updated the system so the bad guys shoot back. We had more than a couple Inspectors realize that they weren't as sharp as they thought they were and retired.

I already have more ammo than I could shoot in a lifetime.Started reloading with my grandfather when I was a kid. Had some cool stuff, complete Winchester and Stevens collections, Shootzens, Winerocks, few flip breech 45-70s in museum condition with the armory stamp still on the stock etc...I hunted with a 32-20 Winchester lever action out of that collection as well as a sporterized 6.5mm Jap he cut the bolt handle off and forged it to a spoon shape that curved around the scope and silver soldered it back on, he made his own stocks with a signature cheek rest. So many rifles growing up, some military too but most were collectors stuff. I got to shoot them all when ever I wanted. I was very close with him and miss him greatly. He was also a photographer, wrote for several outdoor mags that he did his own photos for,(developed and printed too) gun smith, mechanical engineer, farmer, master wood worker, one of very few pilots with an unrestricted lic. with only 1 eye (kicked out with an ice skate a a kid) Machineist (built liquid oxy trailers in our barn) He also machined his own gun parts when he needed them. He did so much I wish I could do a tenth of it.

I found a gun in the eves of our bard when I was a kid too. I went down to ask him about it and he told me it was just an old ad for Segrams and not real. Well I knew that sign and a real gun from a fake one and told him that wasn't it. This gun was so covered with dust you really couldn't see it unless you were a kid crawling out there exploring and bumped into it. He asked me to bring it to him, and much to his surprise it was a real gun. We cleaned it up together, knowing not to clean too much and destroy the value, but we did do a complete disassembly and cleaning. Turned out to be a Pennsylvania Kentucky rifle with a full length tiger striped maple stock inlaid from one end to the other with silver,, German silver, and brass. Not one inlay damaged or missing! It hung on the wall for years but when he died my grandmother gave it to an uncle I haven't seen in many years not knowing what it meant to me. To me it was priceless having restored it with my grandfather.

What are the ARs selling for now? Prices at the gun shops here are skyrocketing.

At one time you could build an AR fairly cheap, now cheaper receivers cost $300+-. The last Bushmaster I saw went for $1200.

OK, send me one

This morning I went to 3 Wal-Marts and all three were out of ammo. Two large sporting goods stores had no ammo. They all did have some shotgun shells. The second dedicated gun shop I stopped at had what I needed (.38, 380, 22LR). None had a Bushmaster (one guy just laughed). The shop that sold me the ammo told me that he gets a couple of AR-15s every few weeks (no set schedule) and he has a waiting list of pre-paid customers ($1150). I'd be #7 if I wanted one.

At least one industry has job security right now.
