As my bobber project continues, I wanted to minimixe the amount of wiring in the stock harness. There is a ton of wiring I eliminated and trimmed everything down to the essentials, keeping the TPS and Carb Heaters. There is a lot of debate of the need for both, but I decided to keep them since they don't hurt anything and it's only a few wires. Heres a schematic and also a picture of the alomost-complete harness. This has taken a lot more time than I expected and is not for the amateur if you have no wiring/electrical experiance. Sure do. There's a lot of debate over whether on not you need them. These venturi carbs can ice up starting around 50 degrees if there is a lot of humidity in the air (think Triumph....British.....London....Fog). They don't hurt anything being hooked up, so I left them in place.

I had my bike die once it was cold and rainy. It would run and then stall, start and stall. I got home called the shop and they had me check the carb heater wire. It was loose. Pushed it back on and it never happened again. That was almost 20,000 miles ago.

That is some crazy wiring job. I'm barely able to do my led and brake lights. Cudo's man

It wasn't that hard actually...just figured out what the essentials were and redrew the diagram. The only tricky part was trying to figure out the starting circuit with the Neutral-kickstand-clutch switches. I didn't wire it in the stock manner.
I removed the clutch switch and wired it so that if the kickstand is DOWN, it must be in neutral to start. That's it. If the kickstand is up, it will start in gear.
I figured if the kickstand is down I didn't want to start it in gear by accident when I'm not sitting on the bike...but if the kickstand is up (I'm obviously on the bike) I figure I'm smart enough to pull in the clutch before I start it....
I probably eliminated over half or more of the wiring, got everything out of the headlight so I could use the a smaller aftermarket light and made it much simpler to troubleshoot if I have any problems. Well worth the time and effort in my opinion and a great way to learn how your bike is wired in the process.
BTW-the wiring diagram shows the carb heater circuit, but I eliminated that as well after reading all the debates on whether you really need them. So far no problems with icing.
