Anyone been there and carried? Do you know the rules for this facility? I am planning on going this fall and plan to carry all the way down from NC. I've been reading the laws but can't make to much sense of them.

I don't feel comfortable these days with out the firearm very nearby, so I was wondering if anyone here knew if it was legal there or posted. I plan on taking in the museum as well.

Clay

Sheriff here has stayed open extra hours and approved over time for the overwhelming demand for permits. We can't keep ARs or ammo on the shelf either.

Okay Chucky. And what exactly DID you "lose" there in the Empire State, HUH???

Wait a minute. You don't have to answer that. I DO watch the News, so I know to what you were referring.

BUT, look at THIS way, my young friend. IF you can't take down a freakin' buck with LESS than 8 freakin' shots, then ya MIGHT be best advised to take up ANOTHER freakin' "sport", RIGHT?! 'Cause you're certainly NO "GREAT HUNTER" in THAT case, RIGHT???!!! Nope, I'd say you'd be more the Elmer Fudd type, in THAT case!!!

(...and AWAY we go AGAIN, folks!...well, that IS at least until one of our moderators sees this thread and lock it up now, anyway...'cause ya have to be pretty darn clueless to not see where THIS thread is headed NOW after I responded to Chucky's "angst" here!!!)

Oh, yeah, I guess I forgot about THAT little scenario, didn't I Bill?!

(...however, I KNOW you're smart enough to know that your sardonic observation here will now be met will some approval from some of the folks around here who won't quite catch your comment as BEING "sardonic" but as "the truth"...but don't worry, I LOVED IT anyway!!!)

And as a long time contributor to this international forum, AND as a non-US citizen I would like to suggest the topic of US gun ANYTHING be added to the AUP as something to be left for another forum and place. Gun related threads are always overwhelmingly dominated by US members because frankly, their content has little or nothing to do with the rest of this international community (that, and they almost always end up political in one way or another). I would appreciate at least a PM or reply in this thread from one or more of our trusted moderators on what I just said. I would also appreciate opinions and view from other non-US citizens in regards to US specific gun topics.

Of course I realize my comments here could potentially derail this thread which is not my intent. I merely wish to convey the sense of being a total outsider to US specific gun related threads which detracts from the sense of family and belonging we all cherish on this site imho.

Eeh! Whadda YOU know, you darn Hoser?! Livin' up there in that Police State where ya got all them there restrictions about guns and all, and so's ya can't fight back with those guys from Ottawa(it's Ottawa, that's where all those guys who rule over ya up there gather, right?!) come knockin' on your door!

Actually Keith, as you MIGHT have guessed here, I have a tendency to agree with your take here. This topic DOES always seem to detour into the political realm, doesn't it?!

AND, I certainly hope EVERYBODY here realizes that it was NOT I who FIRST went into that "realm" in this thread.

(...BUT, I don't know if we have to go amending our AUPs however in this regard, Keith...say, HERE'S an idea for ya...MAYBE if you'd just start remembering that us Yanks are mostly a big, boisterous and pig-headed lot and always keep THAT in mind, then you'll maybe eventually just learn to IGNORE us big blowhards down here south of the 49th Parallel?!!!)

Must say I agree with you Keith . It is a subject that seems to be to with the USA . Although other nationals have opinions on the subject it seems to all ways go down the political route and people have very strong views which they will never change. But if the thread stays to what it is about , i.e. some advice about guns fine carry on.
I'm sure for people who have no gun history they find it hard to understand the American attitude to guns. I know I do. So what’s the point in going over and over the debate. People will never see eye to eye on this one.

When I first read this thread. I shook my head and laughed because I find it so strange about going out and about carrying a gun . Seems as if its the same as taking your mobile phone with you. But as I have not grown up with that life style it would seem strange to me. I still think it is very strange when I go to the airports over here and see our police walking around carry sub/machine guns. Just doesn’t seem right. Yet I know we need to have them.

With regard to a lot of the threads on the site . It is mainly the Americans that start and post so I except that a lot of the posts are to do with there country. Which is fine as I do enjoy reading ALL the threads from everyone even tho I don’t post that often. I sometimes don’t have a any idea what you are all going on about. But then sometimes I think you lot don’t as well lol.

Thanks to all who post which brighten up my day.

I work for Remington and if the country makes the wrong choose I could loose my job along with 1000 of others. In a area that does not have many. The law does not affect me in any other way. Sorry every thing is not always that cut and dry. When in fact I am for most of what the law in tales just not the matter of which it was exsacuted.

We keep hoping that someday....be still my heart... someday, one of these threads will manage itself and move quietly to page 2 and beyond before moderator intervention becomes necessary.

The original post questioned the legality of carrying a concealed weapon at a particular venue.. replies should be limited to information pertaining to that subject. Whether or not you carry a weapon.. or think it's right or wrong is irrelevant.
How about we moderate ourselves and let this one just fade away...

Here is the hidden surprise in any kind of law that restricts individual freedom, and free enterprise - the loss of jobs.
The firearms industry in America generates a ton of money changing hands, in a good way.

Ah well, I guess Dear Leader has a better solution for the US economy than jobs and manufacturing.

I like the heated discussions and differing opinions (Except Dwight who seems to think his is the only correct view on any given subject and tries to belittle anyone who differs.) Don't get me wrong Dwight, I generally like you, just not that personality trait.I just can't understand why it can't be kept to what ever subject the topic has evolved to with the politics left out. It really isn't that hard on most subjects ,even guns. Hate the direction the goy't is going (me) or love it (Dwight) just don't talk about that aspect. I use myself and Dwight as examples only many fall on either side or no side at all. That and I doubt anyone could like everything going on there.

Well stated, Ian.

Yep, I guess all these years of watchin' Carson, Letterman, Leno and the rest of the late night hosts do their nightly "belittling" of the day's events and event-makers, has made me the man I am today.

I lived in the NW Panhandle of FL for a long time and I do remember that CC in Alabama is specific to type sof weapons. A FL CC permit would allow me to CC a gun in Alabama. Not mace, or a knife, or a tazer, only a gun.
Also call the track and see what their policy is, give them Dwight's name so they dont flag you coming in =)

Okay, since we sorta got back on "track". The reason I don't call them is the reason I don't do that in NC any more.
I called a venue here to see what their policy was and the owner said, and I quote "I never really thought about it". Two days later I get a call saying there policy is no guns allowed. If I had carried my firearm in, I would have been legal according to the state law. Now I can't.
So, rather than ask and change the rules, I asked for assistance from possible experienced people here.

Thanks for the help and the interesting thread!

So it's still easier to ask forgiveness than permission, eh?

I like what an earlier poster said; If it's properly concealed, no one will know you have it. Maybe a future question for venue operators is whether all attendees will be going through a metal detector/scanner on admission? I've asked that question before for my wife since she has so much metal holding her together. She once whipped out some of her x-rays at our local courthouse to speed entry. While I had to hide a keychain tool in a nearby planter to get in...

That reminded me of something that happened to(?) my wife some years back.

We were all heavily into competitive martial arts. Everyone in the family is at least a 2nd degree black belt in TKD and various levels of other martial arts. I've been teaching self defense to LEO's for a couple decades.

Coincidentally, we started accumulating all sorts of violent looking weaponry.

Now, some of you have seen pics of Ruthie now so you can imagine 15 years ago. She looked like a 5'11" version of Wonder Woman or Sheena Queen of the Jungle. In other words, nobody's victim. She also carried around a small armory with a collapsible baton, butterfly knife, you name it.

Then comes the call for jury duty.

So, the court house has a metal detector. Her purse fails miserably. So, she dumps the contents. She said the guards actually flinched when they saw all the weaponry. She apologized and said she had forgotten the 'tools'.

At this point the ever-so-diligent guardians of the courthouse scooped everything back into her purse, handed it to her, and sent her on into the courthouse.

I had to wonder what they'd have to find to turn you away.
