Okay, so who's comin' to this year's...

SOUTHWEST

FEST

???

The dates for this little shindig are:

Friday May31 - Sunday June2

As usual, for anyone wishing their own accommodations near by, just ask in this thread or PM me and I'll furnish a short list of some of my recommended hotels/motels.

We do have some limited space available at our home for those bringing their bedrolls, so that is also an option in some cases.

The big Saturday ride this year will be to the south rim of the Grand Canyon National Park. The total time spent on this ride should be about 9 hours and covering about 300 miles in total, with kickstands up and ready to roll to this Wonder of the World at 8:00am.

There will be a BBQ dinner Friday and Saturday nights at our home here. To help cover the food expenses, just slip me a $20 bill per person sometime during the weekend, if ya would.

And once again I'll have SWTF T-Shirts available for $20 each.

And so, like I said, who's up for this year's SWTF?

If vacation time wasn't so scarce this year (had to put more time off towards the vacation/wedding) I'd be going again.

Had such a great time a couple years ago and still think about it almost daily.

Tell ya what, Becky. You help with the Canyon planning again, and I'll see to it that you get a bed here at "Rally Central".

(...btw, glad to hear you're all healed up!)

Its a deal.
Just let me know what you need/want for the Canyon ride. I don't have access anymore to the private tour we did last time - but will be checking on some other options. I suggest that we again enter from the east gate and go up through Cameron, as there is less traffic there then the main gate at Tusyan.

Becky, I'm planning to camp overnight at the Big Ditch as the starting point for my return ride back to KC,MO. I haven't got my camp reservation in yet....but it looks like the Mather Campground (I believe near the S. Entrance) would be the best one for me to throw my tent up at. (sic: easy access, doesn't add bunches of miles to my ride back east, access to Canyon Villiage amenities & such) Do You have any other "primitive" campground suggestions @ the Grand Canyon???

Karl -
I have not camped in the park, so I really don't have any good suggestions. The info on the NPS Grand Canyon Website seems pretty good about camping in the area. I would suggest that for those dates you need to make reservations early - as these places fill up in the summer.
Also, if we do the park trip like I think, you can ride with us, and then end at your camp site when we head back to Sedona, and won't have much backtracking that day.
Will be good to meet you!
Let me know if you want any routing suggestions for this neck of the woods!
Becky

Becky, I was planning on rolling into Sedona from Vegas on the 30th (hopefully with Dean along if he can swing it) & hangin out with the BA mems attending the SWTF. I extended my planned trip (at Dwights suggestion) precisely for the ride to the Big Ditch. I think it'll be great to meet everyone & I know the ride to the Canyon will be a hoot!

I'll be making my camp reservation next week, so I don't expect to have a problem securing a site so early in the year. If all else fails & I can't get a campsite..I imagine that I'll ride back to Sedona with the group & start me return trip home from rally central the next morning. (that is if Dwight okay with that alternative)

If Cathy comes, and she is planning to, we'll get a hotel room. If it's just me, I'll claim a piece of floor. Did Judie like the limoncello? I'm going to make some more.

Bill, if Cathy does come, you guys are welcome to use the guest bedroom at the house if ya want. It has a Queen-size bed.

And yep, I went through the first bottle of the limocello within a month, and I think we still have about half the second bottle left in the fridge. And yep, Judie liked it too!

Still trying to figure out clients' court schedules. Between two cases, chances are: Plea, massive coronary, trial.

Hi Bob! Glad to hear you're comin'!

Re the affordable hotel/motel thing...bigbill and his wife Cathy stayed at a nice little motel called the Baby Quail Inn last year and said they thought it was pretty nice for the price...

http://www.babyquailinn.com/

It's only a quarter mile from my place and I believe the nightly rates are well under $100.

"The great Moose roundup"!!!

Nope Bob, I doubt it, and for two reasons here. The first reason is that the fence and the new deck which is all closed up with a gate on that used-to-be open end is now all done, and the second reason is that while the poor little guy who's now 11 y/o a few weeks ago started runnin' around the house and playin' like a puppy, he tore a tendon on his left hind leg, and subsequently has been slowed a bit since then.

(...but trust me, he STILL gets up and skips around pretty darn well...yep, nothin's gonna keep HIM down for long!)

Looking like Jane and I can make it for the Friday night gathering and I can wave the flag on Saturday morning to release the energy headed for the Great Gash. Will search your address on a mapsite and book some place to stay near by, at least thats the plan so far.

Bill is referring to Dick Curtis, a now retired comedian who was a regular on the old Jonathan Winters Show, and maybe best remembered as the fast talking game show host who in one of the funniest episodes of the classic Dick Van Dyke Show, tricks Laura into revealing on nationwide TV that Alan Brady wears a toupee...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F2fFlCT-zN0

Some time back, I sat down with him over at his inn and he told me some great stories about his interactions with some of his comedic heroes, such as Stan Laurel and Red Skelton.

(...yep, the old guy has some great stories to tell alright, and so for those staying at his inn, be sure to seek him out if you're into old show biz tales at all)

Looking like Jane and I can make it for the Friday night gathering and I can wave the flag on Saturday morning to release the energy headed for the Great Gash. Will search your address on a mapsite and book some place to stay near by, at least thats the plan so far.

And as per our PMs Paul, lookin' forward to meetin' you and Jane here, too!

Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)
