Is that a fishy stringed instrument or a stringy fish?

You can have my share of the Lutefisk. Thats one Christmas memory I wish I didnt have. I will hapilly trade it for an extra shot of Akvavit or a hot glass of Glögg!

No, ya gotta eat the lutefisk so aunt Blandina doesn't get offended, doncha know.
That's what the akavitt and/or glögg is for. To kill the taste, you betcha.

Yep frozen vodka and herring,Lutfisk is like snot on a plate.But the worst one is surstromming (rotten fish in a can that has to be opened under water because of the pressure in the can)
Merry Xmas
I'm going for a ride now

ROFL, I forgot about Surstromming. It is so much worse than lutefisk that they are not even in the same class. Without doubt, it was the nastiest stench from an allegedly edible substance I ever encountered in my life.

My Uncle was a career officer in the Swedish Air Force and liked to tell the story of a court martial that he claimed he sat on in the late 50’s or early 60’s. A crew was flying a DC-3 transport plane and one of them had brought a can of surstromming on board. At altitude one of the crew was rummaging in his pack and the can fell out and ruptured, filling the cockpit with that ungodly stench. Apparently you could open the side window in the cockpit of a DC-3 and they decided to throw the can out the window. The can hit the engine or the wing, doing some damage so they had to make an emergency landing. Subsequently the pilot was charged and went to trial. However, the pilot was acquitted because it was determined that any reasonable person would have done the same thing in the same situation!

I had to look this one up. From Wikipedia;

German food critic and author Wolfgang Fassbender wrote that "the biggest challenge when eating surströmming is to vomit only after the first bite, as opposed to before."
