For those of you that have done this could you please tell me what all needs to be done and how much of a performance gain did you receive from it?
thanks.

I didnt do a 904 but I did do the High compression kit. Same labor. You basically dismantle everything down to the pistons. Carbs off, exhaust headers off, head off, pull cylinders up (also referred to as jugs but not as nice to handle), remove pistons from rods. Reassembly is reverse. Stackas Dyno thread has a ton of results but it looks like something isn't right with the PDF files now. Ill see if I have a copy and can report it there for everyone. UPDATE: Dyno Thread link ... go to the last page. I posted pics of the document for reference.

What needs to be done? Buy the parts and take it to your mechanic.
What did I do? Port/polish the head, +1mm oversize valves, Barnett clutch plates with heavier springs, stock carbs bored out 3mm, and new billet intake manifolds port matched. I'm showing 78.5rwhp top end on the dyno with torque in the upper mid 50's all the way across.

Just do the filter removal (go to pods) , AI removal, change the manifolds to the billet ones, good exhaust, tune it well and enjoy :-) if anything i think the FCR wouldbe a good investment, one i am still considering. I have ridden Marty's 904 with fcr and i admit it goes like jack the bear but not sure i would spend another 2500 or 3k to get there.

I would say that if you don't do the cams you will not get much out of the 904
05 speedmaster - 1100cc, 11:1 racing pistons, Carillo rods, thunderbike cams, ported and polished head, 2mm over intake and exhaust valves, Barnett kevlar clutch, scepter pipes, oversize manifolds, 45mm HSR's, TTP stage 4 firestarter

I tend to agree for an 865, however a 790 should be good with stock cams. Which version does the OP have?
