An old friend stops by this morning, about an hour ago, with a new bike. Proud and happy yes, but somewhat out of his senses. He wants to go for a ride! The only words that come from my mouth are "******, it's like 63 degrees out!" I tell him to go home, polish his bike, and come back when the thermometer reads 80+. My wife thinks I was rude. I think HE was. (I'm NOT beyond compromise, I would have gone IF it were in the 70's)
And you may see me tonight

What? You wont ride at 63F (that's 17C for the rest of the world). My limit in 0C (32F) and that is only because there may be ice. When I was young and stupid I would even ride with snow on the ground. Personally I think the best riding is 15C (60F), cool enough for the gear but not to cold.

Well erle, all I can say is I hope you never accidently cut your finger or any other body part for that matter. Uh huh, 'cause evidently after livin' in Florida all these years, your blood is SO thin you MIGHT just bleed out within a minute or two! (...of course I suppose the GOOD part about all this is that your watery blood must ALSO evidently allow you to be SO limber that you think ridin' motorcycles with forward controls AND clip-on handlebars is comfortable somehow!!!)
Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

I guess it would be cold riding in 63 degree weather if you are still wearing your little girl skirt. Good God man...

I'm glad someone did! I bought mine from some guy in Florida who barely put any miles on it during the four years he had it!

No Paul, NOT joking. There's NO good reason to ride in that cold of temperature. It's NOT my little girl dress that's a problem, it's my silk panties that really feel uncomfortable in those kind of temp's. Hell, I'd have to buy shoes (with socks), long pants, a helmet, and probably even gloves! And for what, maybe six or eight weekends where it gets that cold. Steve knows! Now, you'll NEVER hear me b1tch about it being too hot when it's only in the upper 90's and 85% humidity, THAT'S RIDIN' WEATHER!!! And FOOTBALL!?? NOPE, if I can't play, I sure as hell ain't watchin' others play! (How gay is THAT!)

No Matt, I ride what you ride. (plus about eight others, but no H/D's at the moment)
Probably ride more miles a year on two wheels than 50% on this site.

One thing about it Earle, it takes some kind of balls to confess to a 63 degree weakness. (Just maybe really small, shrivelled balls)

I rode yesterday in balmy 36 degree weather.Yes it was cold, yes it was a short ride. The sun was shining and I had a blast. No I did not use the heater gear. Two jackets, over pants, heavy gloves and a thick neck warmer. I got several interesting looks.

What I worry about is I MAY not be able to stand up straight after riding in that position, in those frigid temp's., without first thawing out indoors for an hour!

What a baby, 63 is very nice, my low limit is 45, no lower because every time I ride at a lower temp, the temp always gets lower. Not much fun riding at 37 very cold finger tips.

Jeez, it's 44F outside today, windy with rain!! If I waited for days of 63F over here, I'd never get out! But I can understand. Your mate's excitement at having a new ride clearly out weighed your enthusiasm for leaving the sofa!!
I'd rather ride it than clean it!!!!

You live in Kentucky? No need to winterize. Just give Yota a shout, he'll hook you up with his "special" anti freeze.

My wife rides to work every day. Cold be damned. If it's not snowing or pouring rain she rides.
She took up riding 5 years ago. Hard core.

Just last evening, one of the stock boys at Publix was kinda shocked that I was riding, "Kinda cold to be on a bike isn't it?" LOL it was only 63 F. What was chilly was the 40 mile ride back from Christmas and that was due to the perforated gloves that I was too lazy to change out for the winter ones in the saddlebag. Prudence has a new cush and got out for her weekly ride.

Probably the coldest I've been was an aborted trip from South Bend, Indiana to Bloomington, IN, in the dead of winter. freezing rain was pelting me. I made it thirty miles when I stopped and turned around. At the point where I stopped, I climbed off my bike and a sheet of ice had formed from my shoulders to my lap and broke into pieces as I climbed off the bike.
I DID make the trip the next day as I was scheduled to work. I completed the trip but spent hours huddled in front of a radiant heater with hypothermia. I called in to work 'cold' (as opposed to sick).
I now have clothes that would have made the trip reasonable but I was a broke kid at the time.

63 in Minnesota EVERY bike is on the road. But I understand, even at 63 you have to put on some leather.

The most miserable cold ride I ever did was when my youngest boy was 11 and we rode to the east coast in late June. When we hit Maine, it was 45 degrees with a light misty rain. Stopped at a couple of yard sales and just kept puttin on another layer of sweatshirts. Coldest 45 I ever felt. The next day was supposed to be a ride to the big tourist island just off the coast, but we lit out of there and headed south!

Rode the Blue Ridge Parkway today. Sixty degrees, no traffic, riding perfection.
Heaven in a saddle.
