1. When parking your bike after a ride, it really helps to first verify that the side stand is down...

Fortunately, the only significant damage was to my pride.

And in the comfort of my own garage!

When I lived in Venice, CA, I didn't have a garage. So I sank an I-bolt into the grassy area in front of my house and I chained my '68 Bonneville to the bolt. One morning my coffee hadn't kicked in and I tried to ride off with the chain still attached! Only made it about two feet with a very abrupt stop at the end . . .

A couple of times I've attempted to leave somewhere with a front disc lock in place

I used to chuckle at these stories and say "Not me." But now I say "Been there, done that, left a hole in the drywall to remind not to do it again...."

So Ken, I gotta ask. Once you found yourself lyin' next to and a bit under your bike, did you do what I did about a month ago when I did this same sorta thing and start laughin' hysterically at yourself for the next 10 to 15 seconds or so before you worked your left foot out from under the bike and righted it?

(...you DO know that laughter IS the best medicine a lot of the time, RIGHT?!)

Many years ago, a friend of mine was riding down the frontage road at Venice Beach (closed to motorized vehicles now) and 3 times in a row, he stopped to try to hit on bikini girls and forgot to put his feet down.

Well then Ed, it sounds like he would've fit RIGHT IN there at Venice Beach, huh!

Then you know what I'm talkin' about, don't ya Cyn!

(...hey, I'm from the SoBay area originally myself, but ya gotta admit many of the regulars in Venice make even the squirreliest dope-smokin' surfer dude in Hermosa Beach seem like a straight arrow..RIGHT?!)

Uhhh . . . I refuse to answer that Dwight, on the grounds that I may incriminate myself! But, some of them did make me look like a buttoned-down conventional girl!

Yep, pretty much, however in what seemed like an eternity between the point of no return and my recognition of being a dumbass I wound up free of the bike on my left side.

The combination of the footboard, Rivco centerstand loop, & saddlebag took the brunt of it.

Ya sure gotta laugh at yourself sometimes!

I've told this one before but, back in the day, a buddy and I were leaving a party in the wee hours. Unbeknownst to Tom, he had slid the kick starter up his pant leg. At the first stop sign he leans to the right and falls over like the tricycle rider on Laugh In (OK, I'm old).

He jumps right up and looks around saying, "I hope nobody saw that."
