Please take this poll so we can get some quantifiable research on which brands of chain give the best life on our bikes.

We want to know the brand of chain and the number of miles it lasted.

Obviously skewed due to overwhelming participation, but the OEM chain seems to be the obvious choice?

I was the first to answer, but I also change my chain and sprockets in sets. I never put a new chain on a used sprocket. May last rear sprocket showed no visible wear and the front only slight wear and I still changed all 3 as a set. I have old set hanging on the shed wall as I think it had a little life left in it. If memory serves I got about 23,000 out of it with no lube but I forget for sure, I know it was over 20,000.

Well I voted, but I'm still on the original chain with plenty of life left.

15000 miles and only adjusted once, that's not counting the time I had the rear wheel off (bloody disintegrating tyres)

Are you saying that you voted 15-20,000 miles (24-32000kms) on RK and it should have been OEM Triumph?

my OEM chain barely made it 20,000 miles, I have about 15,000 on my RK chain at this point and it still looks brand new

Oem D.I.D got me 21000 miles, RK replacement got 23,000 miles so I'm on my second RK. (Speedmaster with 16t front sprocket)

I clean and lube (chain wax) my chains and I don't change the sprockets unless it's worn out. Or to change size of course; in fact I may get a few less miles on this set since I went to a 44 rear with the 16 front.

The oem chain on my bike was a DID.

imho, chain life is directly related to riding style all other things being equal. The manufacturer also is a valid consideration, yet not as strong a determinate as riding style. Perhaps a poll looking at tire life vis-a-vis chain life would show that correlation.

That would be an interesting comparison.

Yes. Also pairing new chains with used sprockets could promote premature wear. However if we get enough participants in the poll it should average out the various riding styles and other factors giving a general indication of the lifetime of one brand versus another.

So while an individual experience of a particular brand will be strongly influenced by their riding style etc, it will serve as a guide to which chain brand/s should last longer.

Running a nice tight TBS cush as opposed to the sloppy OEM one probably adds a few klicks.

I had about 23,000 miles on the OEM when I changed it out sprockets too.

Got about 7,000 on the RK I put on and seems to be wearing just fine.

FYI 4 rears (OEM Metz 9k, Bridgestone S11 10K, STINKo 4k, and MC2 going strong at abot 7K) 2 fronts (OEM Metz changed when I changed my first rear but didn't need it and now still on same Bridgstone S11, gonna replace it soon)
