I was out for a ride today and noticed that my clutch might be slipping. I was in 3rd gear and gave the throttle a good twist. The engine rev'd but only had moderate acceleration. Is this normal? Any suggestions on a fix? New springs or new clutch?

Yep that is you clutch slipping. I had the same thing right after I put cams in the bike, I put new springs in and it is all good,

Now for you, did this just start?...did you do any changes?...for a start try adjusting the clutch cable

Just curious, how much free play is there at the clutch lever (cable adjustment) before the actuator arm starts to move?

It seems like it just started happening. I have not noticed it before and no mods lately. I did put ISO grips on and a freak kit but have not moved the clutch cables. I will check the free play in the lever as well as adjustments to the cable. The clutch is OEM and I have about 27K miles on it.

just a thought, check your cable where up by the lever. Over time the cable starts coming apart. Check the clutch cable life post

Time for Barnett springs.

I if you do the springs your self... search for the clutch spring thread there is a step by step with pictures. I did it my self but failed...putting the springs in is easy, but I had the starter gear drop on me and didn't know what to do next..so took it to the shop..they charged me $120 to fix it. What they told me was about 50% of the time the gear drops...

Hang your bike from a hoist, instead of on a stand, put 2 inches of wood blocking under each tire (Fr.&Rr.) and lay your bike over to the right side by lowering the hoist. You only drip out roughly a 1/4 cup of oil with a full engine at the most, the wavy washer and the gasket stay in place better and the whole job is way easier, IMO. Saw this on R A T a long time ago, used this trick twice, now, I wouldn't want to do it any other way.

Ryk, What's the purpose of placing blocks of wood under each tire?

I think so when you lean it over you don't lay the pipes on the ground.....maybe.?

I see it now. Not only for the pipe clearance from the floor but also maybe for the peg and other unforeseen items?

By tipping the bike you don't have to drain the oil...

Here is the clutch replacement:

The blocks are needed for clearance, the R A T post didn't mention that, perhaps 'cause the example was on a standard Bonnie. I added a 1x1 fence on top of the blocks, so they can't slip/slide out as well. I forgot to mention that letting the bike rest, layed over for a period will help more engine oil migrate to the right side and oil loss is even less.
