Do not use a ball driver type of allen tool for real tight fasteners, 1st off. Do you have a 1/2 breaker bar and a 1/2 Dr. impact grade, allen available? Get your bike so it will not fall over, then it's pull real hard and it should come easy. Make sure your turning the right direction, Righty tighty, Lefty loosey, but you knew that.

Impact driver

Impact Drivers work wonders and are pretty cheap.

Tight quarters to swing a hammer, those upper allen heads face inboard, do they not? Hell, I don't even remember now, I'll look in the A.M.

Now you need to be price shopping for 1/4",3/8" and 1/2 " set of torque wrenches. Real handy when steel fasteners and Aluminum alloys are involved and there are torque values in the book for damn near every bolt on your bike. Just tightening bolts until they squeak once is definitely not recommended.

yeah i agree. i am trying to do the mech work myself to save money but it seems the money im saving is going to the tool store. its crazy but it seems almost as much fun to mess with the mechanics as it is to ride the durn thing. is that wierd?

Weird? That classifies a large percentage of members on this site ... weirdos!

Seriously, I get great satisfaction doing the mech and modding stuff myself. Its not just about saving money, it's the challenge, the research and planning and the, often nerve racking, implementation, and the sense sense of achievement when it's done. I'm a self taught mech and electrical modder (all in the last 10 years) and this forum has been a great support and inspiration.

Not many things in this life are as satisfying as riding the bike you just tuned/repaired/built.

A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort. Herm Albright (1876 - 1944)

i really have always enjoyed turning wrenches, but i was the smart kid and my dad hated turning wrenches so he did as little as possible mechanically and no vocational classes in high school. and its always been i need the car running right this second for work and stuff so before the bike i really had no way to turn wrenches. i think with this bike my goal is to do all the work myself and not take it to mechanic unless absolutely neccessary. may mean a little less ride time and maybe not always the prettiest bike but it will be mine alone and not a store bought bike.

Make sure you have the bike jacked up on the frame, not the side stand.
Those allen head bolts hold the downtubes of the frame and if they move you could have big problems getting them alligned.

And that is why you need a second bike!

Ya got a damn good resource here, for all that wrenching stuff. Ask questions and lots of them. There are no dumb questions only dumb answers. No one here will steer ya wrong. Pretty good bunch of fellows (knowledgable ones too) on this site.

I have no faith in human perfectability. I think that human exertion will have no appreciable effect upon humanity. Man is now only more active - not more happy - nor more wise, than he was 6000 years ago. Edgar Allan Poe
