Hey all, Just installed the Uni air filter, snorkle still in, I plan to remove the snorkle and want to carefully oil the entire filter, but, How do you apply the oil, let it sit and then massage it in?, There's a freaken metal grid on the outside and my fat hand can't get inside of the thing......Any helpful hints? want to avoid over oiling.....Thanks in advance,
Warren

Why didn't you remove the snorkle when you put the UNI in? Will you do the airbox/filter drill-out? Have you re-jetted? I'm planning on doing some of these mods tomorrow. Thanks, Charlie

Spray on the oil, let it sit awhile. Without getting graphic use two or three fingers and rub it in. Let it sit awhile and wash your hands, or not. There you go. By the way leave the snorkle out.

Just to add to whats been said, you don't want to over oil it. just hit all areas quickly. It only needs very little and if you over oil it you can end up with more restriction than paper. And YES......leave the snorkel out ! Pulling mine gave the the biggest boost in power of all the things i've done. But remember that if it makes little difference it's only because the jetting needs to be upped. But it probably will anyways. this is assuming you have aftermarket pipes. If not, then i'm not sure whether it'll do much, tho i have heard of people with stock pipes getting a boost from it.

Yeah, thanks for the advice. I've upped the jets to 130 mains, thunderbike pipes (love 'em) and plan on removeing the snorkle when I get the Uni filter right. Have not done other airbox mods 'cause I don't like things I can't undo.....Ride safe!

I've been wrong before, but here goes.... Wasn't the filter in a sealed plastic bag and already oiled from the factory?? The filter and the inside of the bag will be slightly slimey...

Grump, It was in a sealed plastic bag, but the foam was dry as a bone, no slime in site. If you only have to use the bottom 2 inches of filter, do you have to oil the whole thing? And, while I'm at it..... What is this only use the bottom 2 inches of the filter thing anyway?.....

Angus, I'm no expert, but I called BellaCorse and talked at length with one of their guys about this. No, the filter isn't pre-oiled, but he advised not to oil it at all unless you ride basically off-road. The carbs (I guess) oil it themselves. After a couple of weeks, I decided to remove my snorkle, and pulled the filter to have a look, and darned if it isn't oiled. There's a slight oil residue in the bottom of the filter, and when I pulled it, I can definitely smell oil in it. I'm never oiling it, based on his advice, and because of the risk of over-oiling it and screwing up the carbs. Just my 2 cents worth... Besides, I have a Caspian Blue America, too, and they're obviously the best-looking ones.
Man, if I knew anything, I'd be rich and famous...
