Thanks for putting us westerners in the picture, Kevin (and everyone else). Glad to hear you fared reasonable well. My thoughts go out to the less fortunate, especially the young and elderly.

Well Kevin, now that you've got power back, DON'T just sit inside and talk on the phone or spend all your time in the Internet.

NO! Go outside there and enjoy all that SNOW you're gettin' now!!!

(...sorry, couldn't resist)

Dwight, we got lucky with yesterday's Nor-easter.
We live in the "snow belt" of NJ but only got an inch of snow and no wind.
South of us got whacked with up to a foot of the white stuff.

The weather will be improving over the coming days, and our 08 Vision is scheduled to be released from the shop on Saturday morning. I smell a motorcycle ride!

Only one inch of the stuff where you are compared to those who got a foot, eh Kev?!

Man, you ARE one lucky dude, aren't ya!

Btw, which part of "Joisey" do ya reside? I ask 'cause my wife and I were in southern NJ a few weeks back for a wedding of one of her kin in the Glassboro/Williamstown area. Word is all of her family back there who live around the Philly suburb areas made out reasonably okay after Sandy hit. So, I guess it sounds as if the closer one lived near the Atlantic coast, the more likely they were to have major damage to their property, right?!

I barely got a dusting yesterday and I live in an area that gets heavy snow too. The idiots cancelled school and sent the kids home and we didn't get a flake until 8 pm or so and even at that wasn't even enough to see on the grass.

We're in the northwest corner, about a half hour from PA and NY. We like to call it God's Country, or as close to God's Country as you can find in NJ. The best riding in NJ is a stone's throw from our driveway.

The NJ shore obviously got hit the hardest, but we took a beating because of the high wind taking down big trees around power lines, into homes & cars, etc. My Mom lives only a half hour west of the shore, and never lost power or phone service. Go figure!

Yep Benny, we go through Hawk's Nest (NY 97) a few times a year.

There's a joint on the far side of Hawk's Nest in Barryville called the Carriage House with the best burgers in the USA.

Ooh! I've just google-mapped Barryville and NY 97, and yeah, that DOES look like one terrifically twisty road to have a whole lot of fun on!

The twistiest stretch of NY 97 through Hawk's Nest is really quite short. I don't know, maybe a half mile? You can see the whole length of it while you're on it.

The nice part about 97 is that it runs along the Delaware River and is quite scenic. In 2010 I took a group ride of folks from out of state through there and they loved it. You could take NY 97 from Port Jervis to Hancock and have a real nice ride.

We usually turn off at the Roebling Bridge and take some of those twisty PA roads like 590. US 6 just south of there is a real nice cruiser road too.

In the last week I've done a lot of riding around in northwest NJ. The number of trees blown down is remarkable. In some places whole stands of pine trees are in a pile like pick-up sticks.

We have seen a number of homes with property damage as well. Reports from Staten Island indicate there are still BOATS in the street.

IMHO the government - from the federal down to the state level - has failed the people of this area in a big way. Most folks are picking themselves up by their own bootstraps and with the help of family and friends.

I think we all learned a big lesson here and this is to BE PREPARED for disasters. And don't expect the nanny state to help you when you need it most. Wherever you live, be safe folks!

You got that right. NFIP (National flood) can't begin to get enough adjusters out for the shore flooding. Got here on the 31st it looked like a war zone. Trying to meet people was horrible. 6 hours of meeting folks followed by 3 hours in the gas line.

It has calmed down significantly now.

I try to aggravate one person a day. Today may be your day.

A buddy of mine here at work also works at a car shop that does custom stuff. They got flooded (south shore of Long Island). There were two Nissan GT-Rs there and a couple Corvette Z06's in for custom exhausts or what have you. Total write off and the insurance company doesn't even want them!!!! I think they are just far too overloaded.
