I'm not a huge baseball guy. I start to pay attention at the end of August. Anyway, there is something I am missing. Sometimes on strike three, the catcher will tag the batter. What's the deal with that?

If you swing and miss on strike 3, but the catcher does not cleanly catch the ball, he can tag the batter or sometimes throw to first to make the out. There have been situations where a pitcher can record 4 K's in one inning if the batter can reach base safely after striking out but the catcher not making a clean catch... Sometimes they do it on a foul tip just to be sure

The uncaught third strike or dropped third strike rule. If the third strike is dropped, the batter then becomes a runner. The pitch is "uncaught" and the runner must be thrown or tagged out.

Ah Ha! No wonder the word strike is foremost in their lexicon. They need the time to study the rules. What has it been, eight times now? That they had time to, ahem, study the rules?

I remember making it to first on this rule as a kid. The pitcher threw a wild pitch that I swung at and missed, so I just took off. The catcher missed the ball, didn't hustle for it, and I ended up safe on first.
So, yeah, it's a technical thing, but I'd hate to be the catcher that didn't tag the batter and let him get to first!

Haven't been able to sit through one in 30 years. Only golf is worse. How in the Hell can someone WATCH golf? It's like watching laundry.

I grew up in family of golfers. It struck me as an extraordinary waste of time.
Of course, they never understood mountain biking or martial arts.

Well, to be honest with ya here Chet, I can kind'a see their point. I mean, remember...in mountain biking OR martial arts one would look pretty silly sayin' "Hello, Ball", RIGHT?! (...'cause of course there AIN'T no ball in THOSE sports, RIGHT?!)

I don't watch sports at all, but if I did, the top two I wouldn't watch on tv would be baseball (boring,...pitch, swing and miss, pitch...outside, pitch.... inside....pitch...., swing, foul ball....pitch....outside...pitch....swing, hits it out in the field, player catches it, out. Next batter, more of the same.....) And hockey, I can't see where the heck the puck went and the obligatory fights are just stoopid and have nothing to do with the game. I will, rarely, watch a little golf, which is more fun to watch than the above.

What about bowling or fishing? Is that like watching paint dry?
I think if you've played the sport, it's easier to watch, but some sports are just boring.

Yeah, bowling sure isn't the sport it ONCE was, alright! (...well, not since they banned smoking inside bowling alleys anyway...yep, I used to LOVE to take a nice deep drag on those Marlboros just before I'd roll that ol' Brunswick down towards that 1-3 pocket, boy...Yep, once they banned smoking it threw my whole timing ALL off and my average dropped from 214 all the way down to 182...damn Surgeon General, he ruined ALL my chances to ever make the PBA tour!!!)

Baseball is only boring to those who dont get it, dont know it. Its a wonderfully simple, yet complicated game, nothing more beautiful.

Yeah, I forgot professional bowling. I have watched my friends play once in a while, and I have bowled a handleful of times (I stink). But watching the pro's? Throw, strike. Throw, strike. Throw, strike.......with the occasional miss.
