So i like to take my phone with me when i ride but its a "smart" phone and the battery life sucks. Does anyone sell a cigarette lighter type thing like on a car for an 07 america?

Life need a little Triumph!
2008 Triumph Speedmaster, Single baffle drag pipes, lots of black powder coatin,K&N pods, AI removed, TBS needles and a procom cdi.

I bought a cheap extension cord from Harbor freight with a cigarette lighter plug on both ends, on e male one female. I cut the male end off and attached a polarized plug instead that plugs into my battery tender lead. This serves 2 purposes one it can be plugged in and reaches my saddle bag so I can charge while I ride or I can plug it in and have room to move if I need to call while charging. It is a coiled cord like on a phone. That same cord allows me to plug other accys. in too like a small 12v spotlight I also got at Harbor Freight, and a CD player I used when doing a couple audio tours on vacation.Similar to this

Triumph Accessory Power Socket($35),Installation @ dealer($45),BMW type accessory packet(includes unit for battery tender,jumper cables and plug in for phone/MP3 player($45)..so for $125 or so you will have complete system for on the road charging.I have usede mine for phone charging and oncew a jump boost...no seat take off and quick charge.The BMW type plug in is practically vibration proof and that is why Triumph usus this socket.The other more typical type of plug in and socket is cheaper at Auto Zone but vibration while rideing sometimes eliminates ability to charge.John Deere uses the same BMW type plug in.
life is good..I am retired..sold my America in 2008,bought a Rocket and sold that in 3/2013 and now own a new Triumph Bonneville T-100

rktb do you have an online source for the socket? Is it worth paying to have it installed or is it a buddy and a six pack kind of job?

http://www.powerlet.com/shop-by-vehicle/...-amp-48/215/760 If you plan to ride and charge,then I would reccomend this if you dont want to "Triumph" your vehicle.If stopped and charging then any power unit will stay connected..It is only when moving that connections vibrate loose and it is no fun to stop and find that it is not charged.My Triumph part number for my Rocket is A9938047.Gave my paper work away when I sold my America.The powerlet option is what I will use today when I replace the Rocket

The rear motor mount has a hole. Put the socket in the hole. A purple wire runs into a plug. That plug powers the socket. No need for paying someone to install. Having a buddy install it is one reason to drink. But if your friends are like mine, your better buy a case.

Power down your phone. Or alternatively, turn off blue tooth and wifi. When traveling, your phone will constantly search for a signal. That eats power. But you knew all this no? First road trip with mine and didn't charge it up till late that evening (still had a 70% charge). 570 mile back road trip, i.e., 12 hours.
Heck ANY phone will eat power when searching for a signal constantly.

yep, it's a quick swipe to turn on airplane mode while riding, then turn it off again when you are ready to use the phone... your phone can last days on one charge like that

One more thing that helps battery life when traveling, (if you can) switch the network from 4G to 3G.

Anyone try the adapter from Zootfresh (http://www.amazon.com/SAE-USB-Adapter-Motorcycle-Charger/dp/B007VFFQRE)? I stumbled upon it today and looks like it provides a conversion from the SAE battery tender outlet to a USB.

i went ahead and used a adapter pluged into the batter tender hookups. this seems simple and easy im thinking that honestly i wont be using the phone when im riding and part of the joy of riding is getting "lost" sometimes.
