My son had been using my 2002 TBA in Tennessee. He went to a do it yourself carwash, and now the bike won't start & he is stranded. IDEAS ????

Nevermind. After about 1 hour, it started and run (roughly) enough to get him home. It will probably "dry out" tomorrow and run okay. However, I don't know what it was that got wet. An electrical short to ground somewhere?

The coils are hanging right out there where a car wash wand could easily wreak havoc with electrics. It's the equivalent of popping the hood on yer car and forcing pressurized hot water all over the engine, then finding the dang thing won't start afterwards. Water is electrics enemy 'tis all. Glad it worked out after things dried out.

Live to love, love to live.

Hey Tom! While that boy o' yours was makin' your bike spotless at the carwash, I sure hope he ALSO made sure to spray tons of water in the location of your wheel bearings!

Them suckers always need to be nice 'n clean TOO, ya know!!!

(...sorry, I just couldn't resist that one)

Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

That sounds like what I went through a couple months ago on a trip to the mountains. Rode through some pretty heavy rain for a couple of hours with no problems; then I stopped along the Nantahala River to take some pictures when I was getting pretty close to Robbinsville (it had stopped raining). When I got back on, the bike reluctantly started once and then died. Cranked but no start after that, and got a couple of sonic-boom backfires when trying to start it. I walked around and cursed for a while, and kept coming back to try to start it with no luck. I had the AAA card getting ready to make the call, and decided to try one last time. Of course it finally started up, ran rough for a minute, and then ran fine. Rode in heavy rain a few minutes later before getting into Robbinsville and again for awhile the next day with no issues at all.

This winter, I'm planning to go through all the electrical connections and re-grease them. I've never had issues in the rain until that day, and actually haven't had issues since. Several people have had problems in the rain with these bikes, as well as problems after washing bikes too. Good luck with it.

Will
