Anyone know what the wires that feed into the clutch grip housing are for. It is a pin system on a spring and connects with some plastic round cone-like connector. Just snapped mine off adjusting the clutch and it doesn't seem to affect anything. Also couldn't find any literature on it after a search. It doesn't seem to be needed for anything.

Here is a photo:

I'm betting that's your clutch cut-out switch. Stops the engine starting if the clutch is not engaged. I don't know what its default position is if it is broken off.

yes. Thanks Richard. Just did some tests and it will not start when in gear. Only in neutral. Could be a problem if I stall it out or need to pop start it in 2nd. I guess I will have to replace it.

Hmmm. My 09 EFI requires the clutch to be engaged when starting regardless of whether in gear or not.

A lot of new models require this, pretty odd and unnecessary IMO.

I traced the wires back to the main wire harness and connect the wires, there by "wiring the switch out", also did the same thing to the side stand switch.

Would snipping, connecting and tucking the wires at the switch
have the same effect?

Probably, anyway to run a jumper wire to test this idea?
However bypassing this switch may allow the bike to start in gear. Can someone correct me if that is wrong, I'm not sure.

Thanks Jim and Mike. I am going to give it a whirl tonight since the fix is a new connector anyway. I will let you know the results. It fires right up in 2nd when popping the clutch without this switch. Just need to prevent the nonstart while in gear now.

I wired in a cut-out the cut-out switches switch (a la DEcosse's design). This bypasses ALL the cut-out switches for emergency start situations and cut-out switch malfunctions.

Sounds interesting and would like to know more maybe with pictures and instructions.

However, I bypassed the clutch switch and can start it in gear now. Just have to remember to be careful with it.

I can't remember if you said your bike was carbed or EFI. If its an EFI then you can use DEcosse's design detailed in this post . There is a link to my photos of the finished install( half way down the thread). I have incorporated the starter bypass switch with several other mods so don't be put off. If you're just wanting to do the bypasses it s very simple. Really just adding a wire from one terminal in the headlight relay which runs to a switch mounted somewhere and running a wire from the switch back to another connection on the same relay.

If your bike s carbed then this mod won't work for you. Basically you just need to jump the starter relay. Others will have to help with that mod.

Thanks Richard. Bike is carbed 02. You sure have done some nice work there. I wouldn't even know where to begin. Would like to add a few of those conveniences you have added but I am not electrically inclined.
