As you guys know I have been working with a guy who claimed he could make an S&S better than a Mikuni. He was wrong, he can't even make it as good. I changed to Mikuni after finding that the S&S can not be tuned for a full throttle range there is nothing you can do to not have a dead spot. You can move the dead spot to anywhere in the throttle range you want it at, if you want a dead spot some where, I however do not. I want full throttle response through out the throttle range. Even with all the modifications he made to the carb it still never measured up to a Mikuni. Now on my single carb manifold I have a 42mm flatslide Mikuni and it runs better than ever, and looks very cool as well.

Yeah, I know man. I was hoping this guy was as good as his credentials say he is. Needless to say we have parted ways. The truth is, an S&S would make an excellent tractor carb, and with his mods it would be an even better one, but its no performance part, and never will be.

NEVER SAY NEVER, Chad!

Ok, sorry it took me so long to get back to ya with all this.
I have a 20 pilot, 160 main, 97 needle, and a 50 nozzle. The clip is in the middle groove.
I have been working on the fine tuning of it, and am now thinking that it is close. Tuning it has been fun. I am now about to take it on a road test again.

I believe I also told you that the S&S wouldn't measure up. I could see you getting a good running single carb bike with the Mikuni flat slide though. I said I couldn't see a fixed venturi carb measure up to a variable venturi carb I think.

interesting..tnx!..would have thought th hsr42 a bit too much carb for th Trumpy, but glad its working for you...have you tried smaller pilot & maybe a 98 needle?
So much tunability eh...all good fun! Any px?

I am still fine tuning the thing there are so many combinations, but I am going down to a samller pilot jet because I am still slightly on the rich side. It runs so good right now on the top side its hard for me to change anything there yet. Its working great and I wouldn't use a smaller carb. Its the right one for the job.
