Just wondering if readers have had to change their clutch, speedo or throttle cables and at what mileage their cables failed? Might be a good heads-up for other readers to be prepared?

My original, stock, clutch cable lasted 44 thousand miles with no sign of wear. The replacement, genuine Triumph OEM cable lasted about a thousand miles. Go figure.

I am close to 30,000 on all my cables and all are doing fine so far except the speedo cable. Replaced that (guessing here) at about 20,000.

Changed my Speedo cable around 18,000 kilometers. Everything else is fine at 48,000 kilos. I carry a spare clutch cable with me though in my saddlebags for any long trip.

30,000 miles and going good and carrying a spare clutch cable on long rides/trips is not only smart but a must!

I don't carry a cable but I do carry a new clamp on end so I can repair what I have. Takes up much less room and is a semi-permanant repair. I can ride for as long as I want on that repair since Sportster brake cables used to come that way new.

I got mine from Bills HD, he carries all the old stuff, Shovel, Flathead, Knuckle, Pan, etc... The clamp is a barrel like on the end of the cable that is threaded inside with a threaded piece that threads into the end. There is usually a brass puck inside that makes actual contact with the cable. The barrel has a hole that the cable slides through. Not the type I carry but similar here.

...carrying a spare clutch cable on long rides/trips is not only smart but a must!
When my son and I prepared for a four state trip last spring, we wanted an extra throttle and clutch cable on each bike, just in case, but didn't want them kinked by being in our overstuffed bags/luggage.
I threaded the spares right along side of the existing, and used very small zip ties to keep the ends next to the originals. This way, we not only didn't have to carry them in the bags, but IF we needed them, we only had to disconnect the ends of the broken cables, and connect the ends of the new ones. No unpacking the bags to find them, and no rode side repair of any time.
Since we've got back, and didn't need them, we've forgot all about them, and their still there. (JUST in case)
And you may see me tonight
