In about a week I should receive my airbox removal kit and then I'm going to have my local Triumph shop remove the airbox, A/I and rejet the carb. Unfortunately, they don't have a dyno - so I'm trying to get an idea of where to tell them to start with the tuning.

Now I'm new to understanding carbs, so I would really appreciate some advice. I've got D&D Boss slip ons (and "Boss" is the right word for these bad boys) that I put on a few days ago. With the airbox out, and stock needles/pilot jets, Dinqua's calculator recommends 155 mains (which I've ordered with the kit).

However, the slip ons came with 45 pilots, 115 mains and shims, which it recommends (not considering the box, I figure).

So with the airbox out will I really just need new mains in? Or is there a benefit to shimming the needles and putting in new pilots?

I have the Freak, Thunderbike pipes and TBS needles, roughly the same setup as you. I run stock 42 pilots and 145 mains. Home altitude is about 3000'. Started out with 152 mains but found that was to rich so went to 145's and have run this way since the summer of 2004. Your stock mains should be 120 so I don't understand why they sent you 115's unless they are sized differently than the keihins i.e. Dynojet.

Yeah I dunno why they would send smaller jets. But it also suggested bigger pilots and shims. With no mods after the pipes, my exhaust seems to be smelling a bit rich (like unburned gas) so that may have something to do with it.
